Internet has a fake news problem and some lies can be dangerous. Even while a fantastic
story may be amusing, false information has the power to radically alter how individuals see the
world and their fellow citizens, which can have an impact on beliefs, actions, and votes. This
isn’t really news but a lies that we can’t stop but we can avoid, we as a reader and a citizen, we
can fact check every details stated on the article that being published for us to avoid the
misleading information and fake news can be prevented in that way. Therefore, learn how does
social media works, what you would believe, what should be avoided and when you will give
your opinions, because every text that you’ll post or tell to people might be used against you if
you don’t have a legitimate source and you’re just posting without checking your information.
Select best that will lead you in nothing else but in the truth. As a student we should
know if what news websites we should visit as a source of info since there’s a lot of website right
now in social media that are satirical or just for fun, but if you don’t have a prior knowledge
about it, it might mislead you as a reader or a social media user. I have chosen these four news
websites because these four are the facebook webpages that always passed by on my facebook
news feed; ABS-CBN News, CNN Philippines, Rappler, and INQUIRE.net. I checked some of
the articles of these news websites and they have differences in terms of writing and publishing
their news on social media.
Upon checking these news websites Rappler is the one that I must say that might have
conflicts on my opinion because they have some articles that they used a video that came from
on tiktok that we all know that tiktok is not a best idea since some videos from there were edited
and spliced that can mislead people. “FERDINAND MARCOS JR SPECIAL COVERAGE:
Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s First 100 Days” The article was all about criticizing the 100 days of
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr as a president, it’s all about his unfulfilled promises to us Filipino
and to our country. It clearly justify the article but the video that being used wasn’t a good idea
since it’s not acceptable since it wasn’t came from a legitimate source and it was edited. Being
posted it on social media can give an idea to the people that anything they can see on other social
media platforms is okay to be used since other news website is using those kind of video for their
news.
The other three are bit the same in terms of publishing their news, but I noticed that the
INQUIRE.net news are short but precise (news should be short or one sentence, one paragraph)
in this case it’s big deal to those people who doesn’t like reading too long news, short article is
best as long as it has complete details that as a reader we won’t misled. CNN Philippines and
ABS-CBN News is the news websites that I prefer in terms of facts and ideas in publishing news
because I believe that this two websites always publish the best news and they always provide a
best article for every Filipino. Comparing this two, I would chose CNN Philippines because even
the quoted part of their news has a translation which can help the readers to understand since
there’s also other nationality reading Filipino news and we have a citizen that can’t able to
understand that much the Filipino language. Therefore, fact checking in every news that we read
is necessary because we are the one who is benefit from the news and in that way we would
avoid relaying a news that can mislead or conflict other people.
The four news website has a top story of the day and the Rappler and INQUIRE.net is
about “Marcos names ex-SAF commander Lazo as new PDEA chief” and they also have the
same headline but not the same author/reporter, it’s quite impressing that this two website have
the same news story of the day and the context were similar and you can really say that it is
legitimate because they have the same context. On the other hand, the CNN Philippines and
ABS-CBN News story of the day is all about the middleman of the Percy Lapid’s murder, The
CNN Philippines is reported about the alleged death of the middleman while in the ABS-CBN
News is about the involvement of two middlemen in the case. In these things I must consider the
news that legit and believable because they have the same context and a news is not just found
from one source but also in the other news website. May this give us ideas that in fact checking
we should consider checking on the other news website if they reported the same cases so that
we can say that it is legitimate. Therefore, in considering facts, check first if the news or article
can be seen in other websites and check the source, news details and also the author.
Don’t fed your curiosity by lies and false information, learn to find a best source that
gives nothing but a factual information. Fake news is rampant nowadays and satirical pages on
facebook were rising let us be smart in choosing the websites that we are getting information
because just a little revision of fact can result to a big impact and misleading. Foolishness can
lead you to a dark future because of believing from fake news. Check, read, and search to be a
smart reader and don’t other destroy your knowledge by just saying some information, let them
provide you some sources and ask them to give you the site where they found that info because
carelessness will lead you in dark future. Facts can’t be revised.
