Mahatma Gandhi vs Nelson Mandela

SIMILARITIES
1. Mandela and Gandhi acted against an unfair social situation
2. They suffered in jails but they steadfastly pursued their missions.
3. Gandhi and Mandela demonstrated to the world that they could help build inclusive
societies.
4. Mandela engaged in conflict management with a system that allowed for the fair
existence of opposing viewpoints.
5. Gandhi and Mandela mobilized the masses against oppression and against
prejudices.

DIFFERENCES
1. Their life circumstances were very different and the way in which they developed
their ideals were also very different.
2. Gandhi never wanted to be involved in active politics, and Mandela was an active
politician and he also accepted office of power after independence.
3. Mandela was in favor of equality between white and black people, Gandhi supported
racial segregation
4. Mandela believed that violence was necessary when the government tyrannizes the
nation, and Gandhi wasn’t in favor of violence.
5. Gandhi was more of a nationalist and Mandela focused more on political situations.
