FIBERGLASS REINFORCED PLASTIC

PROCESS PIPE AND FITTING

DESIGN AND MANUFACTURED
BY
ERSHIGS, Inc.

Materials
Resin.
Resin shall be a commercially available, polyester or vinyl ester as determined by the engineer.
Resin shall be stored, promoted, catalyzed and applied according to the recommendations of the
resin manufacturer and in no case shall they exceed 5% by weight.
Resins may be tinted or pigmented for visual enhancement.
Reinforcements :
Structural reinforcement shall be “e” grade fiberglass with sizings and binder systems compatible
with the specified resin.
All reinforcement product shall be packaged. Stored and handled in a manner that prevents damage,
contamination or exposure to moisture.
Winding strand shall be continuous and have a nominal yield of no less than
218 strand yards per pound for diameter 24” and smaller.
110 strand yards per pound for diameters over 24”.

Laminate construction.
Pipe (General)
Pipe section shall be constructed over a smooth mold surface with a laminate consisting of an inner
surface and an interior layer. Intended for optium chemical resistance, an exterior layer for
structural contribution and exterior surface for weather and/or environmental protection. The
specific laminate sequence including numbers of layers shall be determined by the engineer and
detailed on the manufacturing drawing.

Fitting
Fitting shall be fabricated by hand lay up construction or by filament winding or a combination of
both. The precise sequence and number of layer shall be specified by the engineer and detailed on
the adjoining pipe.

Pipe spool fabrication

All structural joint for shop fabrication or field installation shall be butt and strap type.
Care shall be taken to ensure that gaps at butted seams are minimized and in no case are greater
than ¼” for diameter up to 8”, 3/8” for diameter 8” through 30” and ¾” for diameters 36” and
above.

All cut ends shall be resin coated.

Flanged joints
Flange connection shall be sealed with a face sealing o ring or flat gasket.
Flange shall be either full face drilled design orvenstone with drilled steel backing.

Gasket
Flat full face gaskets shall be 1/8” thick for sizes up to and including 24”, 3/16” thick for 30” through
36”, and ¼” thick for all sizes larger than 36”.
Gaskets shall be properly stored and protected from weathering.
