into the river; andeveryfemale, save it alive."

(2) And there was a certain man of the tribe of Levi, who took to wife one of the daughters
of Levi. And she conceived, and bore a male child; and having seen that he was fair,
they hid him for three months. And when they could no longer hide him, his mother took
for him a basket andsmeared it with pitch, and placed the child into it, and put it in the
marsh by the river. And his sister was watching from a distance, to learn what would
happen to him.

nd the daughter of Pharaoh came down to the river to bathe; and her máids walked by
the river 's side, and having seen the basket in the marsh, she sent her maid, and took it
up. And having opened it, she sees the babe weeping in the ark and the daughter of
Pharaoh had compassion on it, and said,"This is one of the Hebrew 's children." And
his sister said to the daughter ofPharaoh, "Shall I call for you a nưrse of the Hebrews
to nurse the child for you?" And the daughter of Pharaoh said, "Go." And the young
woman went, and called the mother of the child...And the woman took the child and
nursed it. And when the boy was grown, she brought him to the daughter of Pharaoh,
and he became her son; and she called his name, Moses, saying, "I took him out of the
water. »

(4) And it came to pass in that length oftimne, that Moses having grown, went out to his
brethren, the sons of Israel: and having noticed their distress, he sees an Egyptian
striking a certain Hebrew of his brethren, the children of Israel. And having looked
around this way and that way, he sees no one; and he killed the Egyptian, and hid him in
the sand. And having gone out the second day, he sees two Hebrew men fighting; and he
says to the injurer, "Why do you strike your neighbor?" And he said, "Who madeyou a
ruler anda judge over us? Wll you kill me, as you killed the Egyptian?"" Then Moses
wasalarmed, and said, "f it be thus, this matter hasbecomeknown." AndPharaoh

Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Madiam,...

(1) And Moses was feeding the flock of Jothor his father-in-law, the priest of Madiam; and
he brought the sheep near to the wilderness, and came to the mount of Choreb. And an
angel of the Lord appeared to him in flaming fire out of the bush and he sees that the
bush burns with fire, but the bush was not consumed. And Moses said, "I will go near
and see this great sight, why the bush is not consumed." And when the Lord saw that he
drew near to see, the Lord called him out the bush saying, "Moses, Moses;" and he said,
"What is it?" And He said, "Do not come near here: loose your sandals from your feet,
for the place whereupon you stand is holy ground." And He said, " I am the God of
your father, the God of Abraam, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob;" and
Moses turned away his face, for he was afraid to gaze at God. ...

(2) AndMoses said to God, "Behold, I shall go forth to the children of Israel, and shall say
to them, The God of our fathers has sent me to you; and they will ask me, What is His
name?' What shall I say to them?" And God spoke to Moses saying, "I am THE
BEING; " and He said, "Thus shall you say to the children of Israel, THE BEING has
sent me to you. "m

(3)And Moses answered and said, "If they do not believe me, and do not hearken to my
voice (for they will say, God has not appeared to you), what shall I say to them?" And
the Lord said to hin, "What is this thing that is in your hand?" And he said, "A rod. "
And He said, "Cast it on the ground:" and he cast it on the ground, and it became a
serpent, and Moses fled from it. And the Lord said to Moses, "Stretch forth your hand,
and take hold of its tail:" So he stretchedforth his hand and took hold of the tail, and it
became a rod in his hand, that they may believe you, that the God of your fathers has
appeared to thee, God ofAbraam, and God ofIsaac, and God ofJacob. And the Lord
said again to him, "Put your hand into your bosom;" and he put his hand into his
bosom, and brought his hand out of his bosom, and his hand became as snow. And he
said again, "Put your hand in your bosom;" and he put his hand into his bosom, and he
brought his hand out of his bosom, and it was again restored to the complexion of his
otherflesh.

and take to yourselves a lamb according to your kindreds, and slay the passover. And
you shall take a bunch ofhyssop, and having dipped it into some of the blood that is by
the door, ye shall touch the lintel, and shall put it upon the door-posts, even of the blood
which is by the door; but none of you shall go out from the door of his house until the
morning. And the Lord shall pass by to smite the Egyptians, and shall see the blood
upon the lintel, and upon both the door-posts; and the Lord shall pass by the door, and
shall not permit the destroyer to enter into your houses to smite you. And keep ye this
thing as anordinancefor yourself, and for your children forever.".

(2) And the people bowed and worshipped. And the children of Israel departed and did as
the Lord commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they. And it came to pass at midnight
that the Lord smote the first-born in the land of Egypt, from the first-born of Pharaoh
that sat on the throne, to the frst-born of the captive-maid in the dungeon, and the first-
born of all cattle. And Pharaoh rose up by night, and his servants, and all the
Egyptians; and there was a great cry in all the land of Egypt, for there was not a house
in which there was not one dead. And Pharaoh called Moses and Aaron by night, and
said to them, "Rise and depart from my people, both you and the children of Israel. Go
4. Exodus 14:9-16, 19-23, 26-28, 31--The crossing of the Red Sea

)And theEgyptianspursued after them, and found them encamped by the sea; and all the
cavalry and the chariots of Pharaoh, and all thehorsemen, and his host were before the
village, over againstBeel-sepphon. And Pharaoh approached, and the children of Israel
having looked up, beheld, and the Egyptians encamped behind them; and they were greatly
terrified, and the children of Israel cried to the Lord; and said to Moses, "Because there
were no graves in the land of Egypt, have you brought us forth to slay us in the wilderness?
What is this that you have done to us, having brought us out of Egypt? Is not this the word
that we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, 'Let us alone that we may serve the Egyptians?' For
it is better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness." And Moses said to
thepeople, "Be of good courage: stand andsee the salvation which is from the Lord which
He will work for us this day; for as you have seen the Egyptians today, you shall see them
again no more for ever. The Lord shall fight for you, and you shall hold your peace." And
the Lord said to Moses, "Why do you cry to me? Speak to the children of Israel, and let
themproceed. And lift up your rod, and stretch forth your hand over the sea, and divide it,
and let the children of Israel enter into the midst of the sea in the dry land.".

behind, and the pillar ofthe cloud alsorenovedfrom before them and stood behindthem.
And it went betweenthe camp of Israel, and stood; and there was darkness and blackness;
and the night passed, and they did not come near to one another during the whole night.
And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the Lord carried back the sea with a
strong south wind all the night, and made the sea dry, and the water was divided. And the
children of Israel went into the midst of thesea on the dry land, and the water of it was a
wall on the right hand and a wall on the left. And the Egyptians pursued them and went in
after them, and every horse of Pharaoh, and his chariots, and his horsemen, into the midst
of the sea.

() And the Lord said toMoses,"Stretch forth your handover thesea, and let the water be
turned back to its place, and let it cover the Egyptians coming both upon the chariots and
the riders. " And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the water returned to its
place toward day; and the Egyptiansfled from the water, and the Lord shook of the
Egyptians in the midst of the sea. And the water returned and covered the chariots and the
riders, and all the forces of Pharaoh, who entered after them into the sea: and there was not
left of them, evenone.

people feared the Lod, and they believed God and Moses His servant.
