Case Analysis

1. What is the documentary film all about? Retell and give the summary of the documentary film
using your own words.
 The Film contains the story statement of Jake Zyrus or also known as Charice Pempengco.
He stated that Charice Pempengco struggled for everything: bashers, international fame as a
singer, and concealing her own identity. She thought that everyone should not accept her if
she became a transman. However, the time came that he revealed his actual identity to
guests on a Philippine Tv talk show when he told his new name Jake Zyrus in public. The film
shows the opinion of his fans that the Filipino people and the country itself did not accept
Jake Zyrus. In addition, his supporters stated that the only barrier to LGBTQ is the church
and our religion.

2. Who is the person in this documentary? Describe the person. Who was this person before, and
who is this person now?
 The primary guest for that documentary was the transman artist Jake Zyrus. He was Charice
Pempengco, a famous female international singer, until he publicly revealed his true feelings
and identity as a new person named Jake Zyrus, a transman and still a singer.

3. How did the person describe the 'transition period? Who and what are the primary considerations
in his transition?
 He describes it as a tough decision because he is thinking if the world or the people could
accept his identity being lesbian, and he considers what his family, friend, and fans could
think or say about him if he revealed his identity. Before he transformed himself into a
transman, he said he remembers saying to his team that if the doctors see that he has the
disease, whatever that is, it’s now or never. I’m still going to do it.

4. If you were that person in the documentary, knowing everything at risk, would you do the same?
Please explain your answer by using some theories we discussed in our class.

 I think no matter what happens, I will not change myself into a transman because it is okay to
be lesbian without changing your Phys al appearance. However, I am not against those
people changing their appearance to recognize and prove themselves to everyone. If you
undergo surgery, you will never turn back the things that you have already changed.

5. What are your three learning insights after watching the documentary film? Please elaborate.
 Be confident and consider you’re feeling about who you are. These two is the most critical
lesson in that documentary because the person will never be happy if they are to be the
person they wanted you to be.
 We should respect different types of points of view or beliefs of the person. We should not
please everyone to understand who we are and not argue with other people’s opinions
because it will become a misunderstanding because the two of you contradict each other.
Yes, both of you will understand both sides at some point, but it does not mean they will
change their beliefs.
 Knowing yourself soulfully and respecting everyone are the main critical points of learning in
this documentary to showcase whom you are without arguing with anyone.
