Remulla RTC DecisionGROUP 3FACT:

Juanito Jose Remulla III, the son of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla,
was released from custody on Friday after being found not guilty of
possessing P1.3 million worth of illegal drugs by a Las Pias court. The
prosecution was found to have failed to produce proof that the younger
Remulla knew he was receiving a package of illegal drugs, according to the
Las Pias Regional Trial Court Branch 197, and that anti-drug agents made
mistakes in the chain of custody of the nearly 900 grams of what authorities
claimed to be high-grade marijuana. “Wherefore, premises considered,
accused Juanito Jose Remulla III y Diaz is acquitted of the crime of violation
of Section 11, Article II of Republic Act No. 9165, on the ground of reasonable
doubt,” read the 34-page decision penned by Acting Presiding Judge Ricardo
Moldez II.ISSUE: Juanito Jose Remulla III, the son of Department of
Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin "Boying" Remulla, is accused of
possessing dangerous drugs by the Las Pias City prosecutor's office.According
to Las Pias prosecutor Jennah Marie dela Cruz, the case was presented to the
Las Pias City Regional Trial Court on Friday at around 2:40 pm. In order to
bring charges against Remulla for violating Section 11 of the Comprehensive
Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, the prosecution worked hard. A controlled
delivery operation was conducted, which means that authorities allowed the
delivery to proceed and used it as the basis for arrest. Juanito Jose was the
intended recipient of the high-grade cannabis.-Marc John G. Paulmitan -
