1. The figure shows a triangular lawn ABC. D is a point on AB such that AD : DB = 1: 2 . Find the
shortest distance from D to AC.

2. In Figure I, a kite at B is connected to A on the horizontal ground AC with a taut string.

(a) Find the length of the string AB.


(b) Later on, the kite rises 2 m from B to B ' and the string remains taut (see Figure II). Find the
angle θ between AB and AB '.

3. The figure shows the cross section of a platform. Simon walks across the platform from A to D via
B and C. If he walked a total distance of 12 m, find the respective lengths of AB and CD.
