INTRODUCTION

NEED FOR THE RESEARCH

The hospitality and tourism industry is a vast sector that includes all the economic
activities that directly or indirectly contribute to, or depend upon, travel and
tourism. This industry sector includes: Hotels & Resorts. Restaurants & Catering.
Night Clubs & Bars

Food and Beverage', 'Accommodation', 'Travel and Tourism' and 'Entertainment

and Recreation' are the 3 main hospitality sectors

People rely on the hospitality industry to fulfill their basic needs of transport,
accommodation, food, and entertainment for work and recreational purposes.

As the world keeps developing, economy would be a major imapct in the

development of a country and the hospitality sector provides a good impact on the
economy.

THE ROLE OF INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY POST COVID - 19

The Covid-19 has accelerated by three to four years the digitization of customers,
but as well as of the business supply chain. Based on its Industry Digitization Index,
the hospitality sector was, back then, classified into the low digitization category
compared to other sectors highly digital such as Media or Finance, the hospitality
industry is expected to adopt digitization faster than ever, and set aside its
conservative image.
For Architects, Construction, Design and Materials play a major role in the
adoption of Technology and Innovation.

AIM

The research aims to understand the need for Innovative building materials and
technology in construction, in the hospitality sector globally. The research is based
on a qualitative approach on the characteristics of building materials, the modern
construction technology and its impact on the industry. Hotels and resorts being the
major base of study.

The aim to study Globally as, innovation and technology has taken place
worldwide and there is no particular regional constraint to it’s application.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE
 Study the relation between architecture, interior design , landscaping materials
or the hospitality industry 
 Classify smart (materials, structure, and system) into that taxonomy. 
 Analyze the properties and behavior of the materials with an overview of the
technology involved and its application with it’s effectiveness
 The study of Modular construction technology in the hospitality industry
 Show how modern construction technology has made an impact towards
sustainability and environmental stability
SCOPE

There is an increasing need for products that are able to react to changing operating
conditions and user demands to achieve high-level performance.

Extended system functionality is the major factor driving the demand for innovative
materials, globally.

A few of the key drivers for innovative building materials are listed as follows:

 Sustainability, including advances in recycling and reuse

 Other environmental concerns, including extending service life or improved
energy efficiency
 Performance benefits
 Modular construction
This approach, which has been around for a while, offers a wide range of benefits
including shorter schedules, lower construction costs, better quality control, and
smaller carbon footprints and other sustainability advantages.

LIMITATIONS

 The study of innovative materials and technology is limited only to hospitality

industry, which is hotels and resorts in particular.

 The study of limited number of materials, which would be discussed after

extensive analysis of potential materials in the industry

 The study of Modular construction in the hospitality industry

RESEARCH QUESITON
How Modular construction is slowly replacing the technology involved in the
construction of hospitality industry and the latest trending Building materials and it’s
impact on the hospitality industry in terms of user experience, aesthetics and
technological advancements and sustainability.

METHODOLOGY / DESIGN APPROACH ( QUALITATIVE RESEARCH)

Stage 1
1. History and origin

2. Materials and Architecture

3. Smart materials mapping for Architectural requirements in hotels and resorts

4. Types and Classifications

5. Case studies

6. Survey

7. Norms and specification of materials

Stage 2

Building materials in hospitality industry with its most trending forms including
architecture and construction

 Introduction
 Study the various definitions

 Characteristics of materials and its properties

Stage 3

Its’s effectiveness in terms of Environment and Sustainability

1. The study aimed to gain insights from the interior designers regarding the
implementation of sustainability in the hospitality sector
2. To achieve this primary aim, the following objectives were outlined: to evaluate
the implementation of sustainability in interior design
3. To assess the challenges in integrating sustainability in luxury hotel interiors and
archietcture
4. To examine the sustainable choice of materials by the Archietcts and Interior
designers.
5. The study also developed an understanding of the commonly used materials in
interior design and their sustainability ratings based on the participants. The
implications of the study are discussed, and some recommendations are
provided.

Stage 4

Innovative building materials and Technology in Interior Design

From an environmental perspective, bio materials are a compelling choice: These

materials are biodegradable and store carbon dioxide, which means they can lower
the carbon footprint of a product or a building during its lifetime. Less well known is
the fact that these materials can often perform just as well, sometimes better, than
less sustainable alternatives.

Modular construction
The concept of modular construction has evolved, with developers across the U.S.
adopting a modular approach to building 2- to 4-star select-service, full-service, and
even boutique hotels. This article gives a brief overview of the evolution of modular
construction, as well as the potential benefits and challenges in terms of cost,
timelines, and financing when harnessing this method to build hotels.
