The Environmental, Management and Coordination Act, 1999 and environmental (Impact Assessment and
Audit) Regulations, 2003 require that all projects undertaken after completion of an environmental impact
assessment study report to undertake an environmental audit study and submit the report to the National
Environmental Management Authority (NEMA). Consultation and public participation is a key input in this
process. Catholic Relief Services (CRS) has contracted NEMA Registered EIA/EA Lead Expert (Bubicha
Mohamed- NEMA Reg No. 7683) to carry out an environmental audit (EA) for Nawiri’s Water Infrastructure
and food processing activities to establish the environmental and social performance of the project and
recommend measures of improvement. As an important part of this exercise, consultations are held with
members of the immediate community and interested & affected parties, in order to obtain their views
regarding the project.
