Quality-of-Service is supported by the Switch if a IEEE

802.1p compliant frame format is used. The Switch
separates frames into two queues: A high-priority
and a low-priority queue. Low priority corresponds
to the IEEE 802.1p Class-of-Service priorities 0 to 3, However closing a ring or being part of any other
high priority corresponds to 4 to 7. The service rate redundant construction is not supported by the

cascaded use of the 560NUS12 Switch is possible.
The 560NUS12 uses a power supply voltage of 5 V.
The voltage can be set to the internal RTU supply or
external supply via a Jumper.

The Switch is not applicable for providing fault-

tolerant topologies like ring or mesh networks.

Connectors & Indicators

The 560NUS12 Switch consists of two equal RJ45
Ethernet ports and two equal SFP module slots.
Each RJ45 port can be connected with a Cat. 3 (for 10
Mbps) or Cat. 5 (for 100 Mbps) Ethernet cable with a
maximum length of 100 meters. The cable should only
be used for in-house connections. Since Auto MDI/X is
supported by the 560NUS12 Switch for the RJ45 ports
there is no need for crossover cables.

The SFP module slots can be equipped with different

modules depending on range. The modules listed
below are available and must be ordered separately.

• 500SMM02 - Short range transceiver for 2 km, for

use with multimode fiber optic cable.
• 500SSM15 - Medium range transceiver for 15 km,
for use with singlemode fiber optic cable.
• 500SSM40- Long range transceiver for 40 km, for
use with singlemode fiber optic cable.
All SFP modules operate at a wavelength of 1310 nm.

The status of any switch port can be determined by

two LED indicators which are located in each lower and
upper RJ45 jack or at the left side of the SFP slots. A
green Link LED (labeled L) indicates an active Ethernet
connection with the states described below:
• Off - No Connection
• On - Ethernet Connection Established (Link)
• Flashing - Ethernet Activity (Transmission or
Reception of Frames)
An amber Speed LED (labeled S) indicates a 100 Mbps
connection with the following states:
• Off - Ethernet Speed of 10 Mbps
• On - Ethernet Speed of 100 Mbps
The SFP module slot always operates at 100 Mbps.

If the Switch experiences a fatal error a red Error

LED (labeled ERR) along with an Alarm condition will
become active.

The alarm condition may also be signaled by an

isolated alarm relay. The relay can be deactivated by
jumper.

Topology
The 560NUS12 Switch provides a total of four Ethernet
ports for use with end devices, switches, bridges, hubs
or routers. Star or line topologies can be easily built by
the 560NUS12 Switch.
