India is currently staring at a massive unemployment rate of 7.3 per cent, according to
data released by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) this month. However, a look
at the disaggregated unemployment data tells us that India may have another serious problem -
unemployment among the educated. Skilled labour shortage is the shortfall of workforce in
specific trades or shortage of workforce with requisite skills.
It is an issue that is a relentless concern in India. Lack of formal vocational education and
industry-ready skills in professional courses, high school dropout rates, and lack of technical
qualifications are some reasons for unemployment among youth. The high rates of
unemployment are a sign of economic distress and very low rates of unemployment may
indicate an overheated economy.One of them is the education acquired by the graduates who
are unemployed plays a key role in unemployment. Youth unemployment in India is one of the
key concerns and is the most extensively discussed issue and we haven’t been able to find any
concrete solution for it.
AIM
To prepare students for industry-ready and close the skill gap in the employment
landscape, Vocational Education and Training (VET) needs to be improved in India. It ensures
skill development in a wide range of occupational fields, through school-based and work-based
learning.
OBJECTIVE
• To study about the need of vocational education in India.
• To study about government policy and initiatives for vocational education.
• To Bring Awareness about this new education system.
• To design an architectural solution to teach practical training to the students.
SCOPE
• Case study on existing Vocational Institutes
• Study about the courses provided in Vocational Training Institutes
• To learn about the government policies regarding this issue.
• Analyse the location with the highest unemployment rate.

UNEMPLOYMENT ISSUE
INDIAN CONTEXT
India is currently staring at a massive unemployment rate of 7.3 per cent, according to
data released by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) this month. However, a look
at the disaggregated unemployment data tells us that India may have another serious problem -
unemployment among the educated.
According to a CMIE report that analysed the data between January and April 2022, the
level of unemployment among graduates is 17.8 per cent. But some States such as Rajasthan,
Bihar and Andhra Pradesh have not been able to provide jobs for more than one-third of their
graduates.
TAMILNADU CONTEXT
According to the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) in 2017-2018, which was
published recently by the ministry of statistics and programme implementation,Tamil Nadu has
the highest rate of unemployment among the developed states in the country. Unemployment
stood at 7.6%, as against the national unemployment rate of 6.1%. The neighbouring Andhra
Pradesh (4.5%), Karnataka (4.8%), and Maharashtra (4.9%) and West Bengal (4.6%) are
placed better than TN on this front.
