Question:

Freedom pf Press is an illusion or reality in Pakistan. What sort of challenges and

issues journalists faced in Pakistan?

Solution:

Freedom of press in Pakistan is considered to be restricted due to a variety of

challenges and issues faced by journalists. These include censorship, self-censorship,
physical violence, harassment and intimidation from verious sources, including
government officials, politicals parties and non-state actors. Additionaly, laws such as
Official Secrets Act and the Prevention of electronic crimes act have been used to
restrict press freedom and criminalize certain froms of journalism.

Journalists also faced economic pressures, with many media outlets being controlled
by powerful business interests or political groups. This can lead to a lack of diversity
in news coverage and a tendency to toe a particular editorial lline. Furthermore, the
digital era has been making it harder for journalists to secure employment and
maintain their livelihoods, as the decline in advertising revenue has led to
downsizing and closures in the media industry.
