Project Summary

European Master of Science in Sustainable Food Systems Engineering, Technology and Business (FOOD4S
‘food force’) is a two-year programme run by four European consortium full partners (KU Leuven, University
College Dublin, Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Anhalt University of Applied Sciences) and ten associated
partners worldwide. This Joint Master's Degree is a multidisciplinary programme integrating FOOD Systems
Science, Sustainability, Safety and Simulation. This MSc programme is covering a broad range of topics
concerning sustainable food production and processing, agri-business, including quantitative methods such as
predictive modelling and risk assessment within a horizontal, methodological and multidisciplinary approach.
FOOD4S is also providing a vertical in-depth specialisation, with programme units focusing on state-of-the-art
topics in Risk and Safety, Innovative Technology, Energy and Food Chains, and Sustainable Food Production,
Business and Economics in food industry thus facilitating access to academic, governmental and industrial
professional environments in these domains. The option of a Professional Competence module is further
considerably widening employment opportunities for the graduates. The programme requires the students to work
on a scientific project supervised via one of the partner institutions and to submit a master's thesis. Upon
successful completion the students are awarded with 120 ECTS and a joint master's degree.
