1. Looking at the “Trends to watch for in the future of assessment,” ASSESS THE
APPLICABILITY of the FIVE trends in the Philippine setting, considering the impact of
the pandemic in the mode of teaching.
2. Explain how each trend may be applicable and provide any proof, whether the
trend is applicable or not applicable.
3. You may choose the school where you currently work, or any other school that you
choose to assess.

Answer:
1. Holistic Measurement
The holistic measurement is the most traditional measurement to assess student’s
performance. They conduct a test to gather information to know the development of a
child. In this way, they can easily determine and provide feedback to hone the capabilities
of the students. Amidst the COVID-19 outbreak, the traditional way to measure the
students’ assessments and teaching practice shifted into a different path. Despite the
changes happening in our current situation, the schools are still using holistic
measurement to assess student’s performance. For example, suppose the subject is skill-
based or project-based learning. The students are asked to develop a project that
corresponds to their topic and communicate their progress. The teachers, professors, or
instructors will now assess their output. In this way, the teachers, professors, and
instructors can provide their feedback to students’ development. This assessment is
applicable in a course that requires skill and project-based learning, such as pre-medical
and medical courses.
2. Continuous Testing
Continuous testing is like a game. In digital games such as MMORPG or RPG, the
players must do the complex quest to reach a particular goal to succeed in the game.
Without analyzing the quest instructions, the players might not improve his/her character
in the game. Without examining these assessments, we cannot determine the capabilities
and competencies of the students. Continuous testing or stealth assessment measures
how students progressed toward a targeted goal in the school. With an embedded
performance-based assessment in digital gaming, they use this as an avenue to assess
and support the learning that will help lessen the growing number of disengagement from
the school, which provides dynamic and ongoing measures of the learning procedure
result to the performance of the students. Hence, the teachers, professors, or instructors
can easily monitor the students’ progress with their targeted goals. In this kind of
assessment, continuous learning is applicable in high school and college students.
3. Real-time, Data-driven Insights
In this kind of educational setting amidst the pandemic, where most of the class is
conducted online, the most applicable right now is the “real-time, data-driven insights”
assessment. Most schools are currently using the learning management system. The
Learning Management System (LMS) has a function to give real-time data to the teachers,
professors, or instructors. The primary function of LMS is to enhance the learning process.
Because of this learning process, the teacher, professors, or instructors can quickly
determine the students’ performance. They can easily get the information through the use
of a system given by the school. The teachers, professors, and instructors can adjust in
any situation because they are accessible in the system.
4. Tailored Learning
In this kind of assessment, the student should first learn the basics or build a strong
foundation before proceeding to their next level of education. Without knowing the basic
concepts, the students might struggle in the advanced subject that they are taking.
Through tailored learning, the students get the proper attention they need to fully
understand the concept before moving on to the advanced topic. Subjects such as
English, Math, or Science require the students to know the basic concepts before moving
on to these subjects’ advanced topics. Without proper knowledge of these subjects’ basic
concepts, it is difficult for the students to study its topics- and as a result, the students may
find themselves in a difficult situation in the future. That is why it is essential to teach the
students basic concepts before moving on with more complex topics. Tailored learning
lets students focus on their strengths and hone their abilities. The students have the
opportunity to investigate their capabilities thoroughly. The students can move forward
with their learning goals in their classroom since it allows them to explore more important
areas. Hence, the teachers, professors, and instructors allow the students to have a more
profound knowledge concerning their chosen subject with the help of modern
technologies, making the students more interested in improving their capabilities.
5. Shift in Scoring
The shift in scoring is one of the traditional ways to assess a student. There are
two scoring methods the numeric and alphabetized scoring. In this assessment, they are
more focused on collecting the students’ scores, relatively to quiz, recitation, examination
test, and projects. Since education is continuously evolving, then the assessment for the
students rapidly changes too. The teachers, professors, and instructors can quickly
identify the deficiency of the students.
