It is the end of the semester again, it has been a wonderful journey for the past few weeks.

have gain lots of knowledge and skills throughout the course which is Development

Psychology. This course is extremely beneficial for future special educators and practitioners

to use all these knowledge and skills in to the future. Before taking up this course, my

knowledge and skills about child developmental is very shallow. Learning about children

milestones is very important to consider about as educator.

Over the course of this class, I have pieced together many things about my own life that

before went unnoticed. I am now able to see things in a bit of a different light. Now that I

have been introduced to the development psychology and I understand some of the reasons

for behaviours around me. I have learned that there is a reason for most of the thing and a lot

of our behaviours and mental processes can be explained through psychology. Besides that,

having a better understanding of behaviours help me to better understand myself and the

others around me. Psychology was a much bigger part of my life than I ever realized. It is

involved in how I think, learn, behave, and interact with everything around me. Over the past

eight weeks, this class has not only fulfilled my major requirements, but also made me

understand more about the complexity of child development and how I can become a better

person as a future parent and educator.

The topics that would benefit me in the future are infancy, early childhood, preschool age,

middle childhood, adolescence and adulthood. I plan to be successful with my career and use

what I have learned in Development Psychology to prepare future’s leaders of tomorrow.

Initially, developmental stages described a child’s developmental growth during each period.

Learning about developmental stages and the limitations of each period made me realize that

one has to treat separate children differently in every stage. Also, this also explains that each

stage can affect a child negatively or positively depending on the caregiver and others around

the child. Learning the complexity of each stage, a child enters affects the next. I learned that
a teacher cannot jump to conclusions whenever a student has trouble learning, thus labelling

that child with a disease such as ADHD and dyslexic. It made me realize that raising a child

according to developmental stages is not an easy task even one mistake can lead to

consequences. For instance, during the adolescence, a teenager begins to wonder who they

are as a person and how to fit into society. If a teenage comes out of this stage knowing his or

her identity then adulthood would not be difficult whatsoever. On the other hand, if teenagers

do not know their identity then they would enter adulthood confused about themselves. The

topic of adolescence has taught me to appreciate and understand teenagers better.

Previously, I have attended a conference organized by National Early Childhood Intervention

Council (NECIC). Thus, after I had studied this subject, I got an advance understanding about

developmental stages of children. In the conference, some parents share about their

experience having a special needs child and how they can contributed to their child

development. A parent shared on what is a purpose of education for students with disabilities.

In this question, the parent wants their child at least to have some knowledge and academic

background to be survive in the society after their child’s middle childhood age. They do not

require and expected them to have very high qualification but at least to have the basic skills

in their future career to accomplish their aspiration after they emerge into adulthood stage.

This is the reason why the parents do not force their child to write and read perfectly

comparing with the typical student. Some even send their child to learn activity such as piano

lesson, drawing or learn how to bake.

Some of the parents do not have any goals for their child because they don’t want to set a

high standard and pressure on them. There are some parents say they wish their child

manages to get employed by someone and fulfil their satisfaction on what their child really

wanted to do. As we know, good parenting is important for the overall development of a

child. Many of the parents might think giving good facilities can make a child happy. Parents
have to find out the main cause of their problems to provide them the right needs. There are

some parents say they wish their child manages to get employed by someone and fulfil their

satisfaction on what their child really wanted to do.

Knowledge about children that I still need to develop the step should take if a child doesn’t

meet a development milestone. Each child is an individual and may meet developmental

milestones a little earlier or later than his or her peers. I hope I will learn about this topic in

other subject to fulfil my understanding in these topics.

This course did not only meet my expectations, but exceeded them greatly. I learned so much

about my development in the course within my individual assignment. There is so much

information to obtain in this specific course. I am honestly sad this class is over because it

was phenomenal. As a future educator as learning experience I will take with me that no child

is the same no matter how they appear. I learned that I have to create a friendship with every

student and even more so the students who struggle with their own differences. I always

enjoy Ms Wong's classes. Her teaching is relevant to the class, and these classes are

welcoming and full of smiles and acceptance. I feel like all content that was presented in this

course was relevant and that nothing was "excess." I feel like it is the perfect way to

introduce people to the teaching world.

We also had group assignment presentation where we have to present about middle childhood

and adolescence stages to our classmates. Through this, we are able to learn from each other.

Not only that, we were able to observe other presentation skill and reflect our own skills.

Some of my classmates presentation are very attractive that able to get audience’s attention.

Hence, by observing each other, I can reflect my presentation skills and able to evaluate as

well as make improvement on it.

In this course we also completed quizzes. I believe that it really required me to look back at

the content that we had covered in order to answer the question on the quiz. In conclusion,

this course definitely proved to be one of the most challenging education courses I have taken

in this semester. In this course I experienced an important change in my beliefs about

children. I came to understand that there are many different theories that can be personalized

to suit the children.
