Discussion Questions
1. What actions should Mattress Firm have taken when it became apparent that there were
some nimble, online rivals entering the industry?

Mattress Firm may engage in creating some online platforms to help blunt new
rivals. In doing this one, it requires investment wherein Mattress Firm should lower down
their investment. In the business industry, the top management could have been more
reflective in what their customers especially the potential customers believed about the
negative aspects of the brick-and-mortar companies. For instance, in the customer buying
experience there were salespersons who made the customers in a position wherein they
want the customers to decide abruptly. As we all know customers really take time when it
comes to deciding as to purchase some items, as a salesperson its your task to wait the
customers for them to decide. Rushing them could lead to poor customer service,
tendency is that the customer will not go back to your store for that kind of experience.
2. Casper Sleep Inc. has undoubtedly become a strong competitor in this industry. In your
view, what could they do to further strengthen their position?

Casper may strengthen their position by expanding its direct-to-consumer online business
into a wide variety of products including bed frames, sheets, pillows, and dog mattresses.
These related products of Casper Sleep Inc. would provide additional revenues and
margins. Basically, there would be a minimal transportation costs this is because some of
these products could be shipped together with the purchase of mattress.
