Sierra Leone is a country on the southwest coast of West Africa. It is


bordered by Liberia to the southeast and Guinea to the northeast.

ORIGIN: Sierra Leone first became inhabited by indigenous African


people at least 2,500 years ago. The Limba were the first tribe known to
inhabit Sierra Leone. Sierra Leone got her independence in the year
1961 from Great Britain. Sierra Leone was a colony of British since
1808.

SOME FACTS ABOUT SIERRA LEONE

1. Sierra Leone is blessed with a tropical climate and diverse


environment ranging from the savannah to the rainforest.

2. Sierra Leone gained its independence from Great Britain on April


27th, 1961.

3. The two largest and most dominant ethnic groups of Sierra Leone are
the Menda and Temne.

4. The current president of Sierra Leone is Julius Maado Bio and the
vice president is Mohammed Juideh Jalloh.

5. Sierra Leone is famous for “blood diamonds” that were mined and
sold during the civil war to raise money for weapons.

6. Sierra Leone Means "Roaring Mountains". Sierra Leone acquired its


name thanks to Portuguese explorer Pedro da Cintra.
