Course Outline

This course is composed of 8 units:


Unit 1: Getting started with Algebra Unit 2: Introduction to functions and equations Unit 3: Rate of change Unit 4: Linear functions Unit 5: Linear equations and inequalities Unit 6: Systems of linear equations Unit 7: Exponential and quadratic functions Unit 8: Solution methods for quadratic equations

Intensified Algebra 1 Course Information

Expectations of students with a substitute:


Respect the substitute as if he/she was a teacher. Complete all assignments given before the bell rings. Turn in all assignments to the substitute (any kept assignments will not be accepted) ALL classroom rules apply Leave the classroom the way it is

Exams will be given at the end of each Unit. It is very important to study to be fully prepared. Quizzes and district assessments will be done throughout the year!

Course Philosophy
The purpose of this course is to help students become successful in mathematical reasoning, effective communication, making connections, and problem solving.

Grading Scale 90-100 = A 80-89 = B 70-79 = C 65-69 = D Below 65% is a failing grade Grade Categories Six Weeks Exam 15% Classwork 10% Homework 10% Project(s) 10% Quiz 15% Exams 40% Returning from an absence Go to the absent homework folder Pick up missing assignments from correct folder Turn in work by the end of the week Make-up work needs to be done within the week after you come back. Make-up tests will be offered on Tuesdays (after school) Late Assignments Any assignment that is turned in late will receive an immediate 10 percent penalty. No assignment will be accepted after one week late.

Classroom Rules
1. Come to class every day that you are not sick. 2. Arrive on time with your own work and materials. 3. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. 4. Follow directions the first time. 5. Stay on task during all work times.

Homework will be given out on a consistent basis, which should take about 30-40 minutes outside of class time.

Tutoring Hours:
Mondays & Tuesdays 7:35-7:50 A.M. 3:30-4:30 P.M.
