A Perfect World - Short story

We started our mission, to abduct everyone from earth and bring them to our planet. As soon as
we arrived, I could see confused faces from many, others panicking at what they had just seen.
Seeing many families trying to run away from our pods. I was trying to tell them they had no
choice but to either get in or die on this planet, but I was ordered not to speak with any of the
creatures. They looked way different from us, different shapes, it was weird to see other
creatures other than us. They apparently were called “humans”. And to think they were going to
join our world gave me nightmares.
Weeeooohhh,Weeeooohhh. The alarm was so loud it pierced my ears even though I don’t have
any. It was dark outside. It was probably early in the morning and not a single soul knew where
they were going. Pods were surrounding the area, so basically no one could escape.
I kind of felt bad about them. We were trying to save them though, but they wouldn’t know that
because we weren’t allowed to say anything. Poor creatures didn't know that their planet was
going to destroy itself and they were all going to die. Unfortunately, they didn’t have enough
space for all of them. Even though we had many pods they just wouldn’t fit all of them.
As they all got out of their home, some holding nothing, some having their belongings with
them, some holding their babies. My attention was drawn to this one woman who was holding
her baby in her hands. She seemed like an only parent since I couldn’t see a man near her. I was
distracted by the people who just came inside the pod. When they saw me, they screamed in
horror. I guess they just had never seen an alien before. After 5 minutes they started to calm
down and sat in the other room while I turned around to see the other people climbing in. I saw
that one woman again, whose baby was snatched out of her arms. I watched as she screamed
“NO. HOPE. DON’T TAKE HER AWAY FROM ME”.
The baby’s name was Hope, who was now going away with an officer, God knows where. The
woman was now climbing into our pod, tears streaming down her face. The thought of losing her
baby must have been hard. I was hoping the baby survived and the officer took her to another
pod because the woman was now our last passenger. The woman entered the pod and walked
away in the corner of the room and sat down sobbing. I felt bad for her, not knowing why,
because I wasn’t supposed to feel that way towards a human. But losing someone you love felt
awful.
I had an experience like that once. I lost my childhood best friend. She was gone, she wasn’t
moving at all. Nobody knows why she died but she did. It was probably the worst day of my life,
knowing I had to continue my life without her. I don’t know if “humans” had the same types of
sicknesses but maybe I could ask someone about it. After we arrived at our planet, of course. I
couldn’t risk doing it now, right?
Screw it! I went over to the other room where most of the humans were sitting. I tapped over the
woman’s shoulder. She turned around and backed away terrified.
“I’m not going to hurt you”- I said. “Just want to know some stuff about you.”
“I’m not going to tell you anything!!”- she yelled. “You monsters took away my child.”
“I know, i know, but if you cooperate with us, maybe we can find her”- I said trying to calm her
down. “She’s not lost, maybe she’s in the other pods. What’s your name?”
“Hayley.”- she says, taking a deep breath before continuing. “If my baby was in another pod, she
should have come in with me, why is she not with me?”- she asked.
“Because you were the last in this pod. We can’t risk bringing more humans or otherwise it
won’t work”
“What won’t work?”- she stops for a minute and stares at me. “Nothing.”- I say before getting up
and exiting the room.
I can feel her eyes following my body. So clueless, so confused about what just happened.
One of the guards was coming out of the security room.
“Oh, I’m screwed”- I wondered to myself.
Our eyes met and I innocently smiled, trying to hide the fact that I had just spoken to a human
being.
He must have noticed that I was uncomfortable and that something was wrong.
“What did you do?”- he asked calmly.
“Nothing. Did I say anything?”
“Don’t tell me you talked to one of the passengers. You know that’s not allowed”
“Look, I was just trying to help this woman. She lost her baby, and she was sad, so I just calmed
her down”- I said trying to convince him.
“That’s still against the rules! What if someone saw you talking to her?”- he asks, looking
around.
I stood there in silence, not knowing what to say. I knew that was wrong but still did it anyway.
“I’m sorry! It won’t happen again.”- I apologized.
“It won’t. Because if it does you won’t be here any longer.”- he says sharply.
Was that supposed to be a threat? Were they going to execute me just like they did to my best
friend? I had no idea, but I just knew I had to be careful.
A few hours had passed. We arrived at our beloved planet. My home.
I noticed the humans were looking amazed at it. They had probably never seen such a thing in
their lives. It felt good that we saved those lives. I was still thinking about Hayley and Hope. She
was still in the corner of the room. Looking at the wall, uninterested in anything. Didn’t even
take a look at the planet, was probably lost in her thoughts, hopeless.
The door opened and an announcement was called.
“Humans, welcome. You will be supervised with a helmet and a snorkel to breathe. Please,
before going outside the pod please take those and wear them. The aliens who will be helping
you are Freya and Lori who are waiting for you outside the door. Thank you and enjoy the stay.”

“Freya?!” I thought to myself. “That’s me.”

I saw Lori come out of the storage room with all the supplies. People got up and started lining
up. We each gave them a helmet mask and a snorkel and helped them to wear it in their body.
I was seeing other people getting out of the other pods. It looked kind of fascinating, frankly.
“Hey! Eyes here. We don’t have much time.”- Lori said, bringing back my attention to the man
who was staring at me while waiting for his helmet.
“Yeah, sorry. I got distracted.”- I said, handing the guy his helmet.
As the line finished, I noticed Hayley was still in her seat. I walked up to her.
“Hayley. It’s time to go.”- I said calmly.
“I don’t want to go.”- she said, tears in her eyes.
“You have to. It's the only way.”- I said, holding my hand out for her to grab.
She hesitated at first but agreed. She took my hand, and I helped her get in her helmet and
snorkel.
We finally got outside, and I could see everyone there. I was amazed at how many people were
here on our planet. I saw our leader, Mr. Moulvert Stefan Molivin, came out to give an
announcement to the new people.
“Hello humans. I am glad that you are here with us today. I just wanted to clarify that this action
had no bad intentions whatsoever. We saw the condition of your planet Earth. I must notify that
it’s destroying, and you all would die tragically. Our only intention was to save you all. I hope
you all will understand and will get used to our daily life here. I wish you all the best and right
now would advise you to find your families. Thank you”
Everyone rushed to find their families and I looked over to Hayley who was looking at the crowd
hoping to see Hope somewhere. I was hoping that officer had taken Hope with her to another
pod.
It would break my heart to know that Hope was stuck on Earth alone and Hayley would never
get to see her again. Just then I saw Hayley run. I had no idea where she was going, but then I
saw behind her a tiny creature. It was Hope! I saw Hayley hug her like she had never before.
Tears running down her face. Not letting her go, maybe because she was scared of losing her
again.
I was watching them from afar, a tear rolling down my cheek. I was so happy to have witnessed
this reunion.
Fast forward to 5 years later. Everyone has adjusted and they’re happy. Hope has grown so much
and has made many new friends. I hang out with Hayley a lot too. It’s a perfect world.
