Oil Nalangu and Gaye Holud : New cotton saree & dhoti is blessed with turmeric and
offered to bride and groom

Pillayar poojai : Invoking the blessings of lord Ganesha for proceedings of the day and
prayers for long life for the couple

Arasanikkaal : symbolic ritual where the sacred peepul tree is invoked to bless the couple
with long life

Manapongal : Blessings for the wedding outfits

Patta Bastra : Groom changes into the wedding attire and is the prime opportunity for the
brides sisters to steal his footwear

Saat-Paak, Shubho-Drishti, Mala-Badal : Bride is brought to the Chhandnatala (the

canopy where the wedding takes place) on a pidi (low stool) by her brothers and taken around
the Groom seven times. She keeps her eyes/face hidden by holding the betel leaf. Once she is
face to face with the Groom, she lowers the betel leaf to meet the eyes of the Groom. Then,
garlands are exchanged.
