Materials: A selection of leaves in variety of shapes(leaves with strong veins work best) ,
watercolour paint, paint brush, white A4 paper, white crayon/candle.
Like real scientists, children must learn keen observation to take in information of what they see.
After all, it's only after someone has really seen something that he or she can make sense of it.
Leaves come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, arrangement patterns and textures. That’s why
they make interesting subjects to study when teaching children to observe both shapes and
margins.
Apart from observing leaves, in today’s lesson, we are going to do leaf rubbing artwork as an
extension of our leaf observation. It is a good way for your child to learn about the basic
structure of a leaf – with a fun “magic” twist!
Prepare the materials in front of the child for the activity. Please refer to the diagram below
for your reference.
