Uses of the organic compound in everyday life

- Acetylsalicylic acid acts as an inhibitor of cyclooxygenase.

- It is used to prevent venous and arterial thrombosis.

- It is used in the treatment of different types of headaches.

- It is used as an anti-inflammatory agent for long-term as well as acute

inflammation.

- It is thought to reduce the overall risk of getting cancer, and dying from cancer.

- Aspirin (Acetylsalicylic acid) is an important part of the treatment of those who

have had a heart attack.

- It is a first-line treatment for the fever and joint pain symptoms of acute

rheumatic fever.

E.)

Effects to humans and other living things

In humans, the body converts aspirin (Acetylsalicylic acid) into a substance called

salicylic acid which is responsible for the anti-inflammatory action of aspirin

(Acetylsalicylic acid). Plants make salicylic acid. They use it to help defend themselves

against infection.

Precautions in using the compound

1. It is very important that your doctor check your progress while you are using this

medicine. This will allow your doctor to see if the medicine is working properly

and to decide if you should continue to take it.

2. This medicine can not be used for treatment of a heart attack. Use an

immediate-release aspirin in such an event.

3. Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not use

this medicine during the later part of a pregnancy unless your doctor tells you to.
4. This medicine may increase risk for bleeding problems, including stomach ulcers

or bleeding. This usually occurs if you are taking aspirin with certain medicines

(eg, NSAIDs, blood thinner). Check with your doctor right away if you have black,

tarry stools, severe or continuing stomach pain, unusual bleeding, bruising, or

weakness, or vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds.

5. Do not take other medicines unless they have been discussed with your doctor.

This includes prescription or nonprescription (over-the-counter [OTC])
