D7 G
The Lord is His name (last half 2x)

Pharaoh’s chariots and his hosts hath He cast into the sea
His chosen captains also are drowned in the Red Sea
The depths have covered them, have covered them they sank
They sank into the bottom as a stone

For though we walk in the flesh we do not war after the flesh
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal
But mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds
To the pulling down of the strongholds

Casting down imaginations and every high thing

That exalteth itself against the knowledge of God
And bringing into captivity
Every thought to the obedience of Christ

I WANNA GO TO HEAVEN (EW 18, 19)
by Rick Metcalf

G C Am
I wanna go to heaven, pick a never fading flower
Bm Em Am D7
From the mountain overlooking the temple of my God
G C Am
I wanna go to heaven where all is light and glory
Bm Em Am D7
How I long to be with Jesus, how I long to be with God

Chorus
C Bm
Sometimes I think that I can stay here no longer
C Bm
I feel very lonely here for I’ve seen a better land
C B7
And oh, that I had wings like a dove
Am D7 G
Then would I fly way and be at rest

I wanna go to heaven, I wanna hear the voice of Jesus

You have washed your robes in My blood, stood stiffly for the truth
When I get to heaven, I’ll cast my crown at Jesus’ feet
I wanna praise His name forever, for He’s done so much for me

I wanna go to Heaven, I wanna hear the voice of Jesus,

I will gird myself and serve you, for you suffered much for me
And when I get to Heaven, I wanna sit at Jesus' table!
Oh! To eat the fruit of that land, to go back to earth no more!

GATHER THE ROSES (SC 116)
by Kayla Jenkins

Chorus
D D7 G
Gather the roses, the lilies, the pinks
D A G
Think of the joys in your life
D G
The briars will wound you, the thorns only grieve
D A D
So gather the roses, the lilies, the pinks

D G D
As I was walking the pathway of life
A G
Trials were all I could see
D G D
The joy and the peace I once knew with the Lord
A D
Seemed like a faint memory

I dreamed that I walked through a garden fair

Carrying of sweet flowers rare
Then stung by the thorns as I strayed from the path
I heard a voice speak soft and clear

Repeat Chorus

G D
Don’t gather the unpleasant times in your past
A G D
Don’t mourn them and talk them all through
G D
Remember the blessings God gives you each day
E A A7
Oh listen, He’s saying to you:

Repeat Chorus

A SHELTER IN THE TIME OF STORM SDAH 528

by Vernon J. Charlesworth

D G Em
The Lord’s our Rock, in Him we hide
A A7 D
A shelter in the time of storm
D G Em
Secure whatever may betide
A D
A shelter in the time of storm

Chorus
G D
Mighty Rock in a weary land
A D
Cooling shade on the burning sand
G D
Faithful guide for the pilgrim band
A D
A shelter in the time of storm

A shade by day, defense by night, a shelter in the time of storm

No fears alarm, no foes affright, a shelter in the time of storm

The raging floods may round us beat, a shelter in the time of storm
We find in God a safe retreat, a shelter in the time of storm

O Rock divine, O Refuge dear, a shelter in the time of storm

Be Thou our helper ever near, a shelter in the time of storm

AMAZING GRACE SDAH 108
by John Newton

D D7 G D
Amazing grace how sweet the sound
Bm A
That saved a wretch like me
D D7 G D
I once was lost, but now am found
A D
Was blind but now I see

‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear

And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed

The Lord has promised good to me

His word my hope secures
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures

Through many dangers, toils and snares

I have already come
’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far
And grace will lead me home

When we've been there ten thousand years

Bright shining as the sun
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we'd first begun

AND CAN IT BE SDAH 198
by Charles Wesley

D G A D
And can it be that I should gain
G A D E A
An interest in the Savior’s blood?
D A
Died He for me, who caused His pain—
G D A D
For me, who Him to death pursued

Chorus
D A D G A
Amazing love! How can it be
D G A D
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
A A7 D
Amazing love! How can it be
G D G A D
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

He left His Father’s throne above

So free, so infinite His grace—
Emptied Himself of all but love
And bled for Adam’s helpless race
’Tis mercy all, immense and free
For O my God, it found out me

No condemnation now I dread

Jesus, and all in Him, is mine
Alive in Him, my living Head
And clothed in righteousness divine
Bold I approach the eternal throne
And claim the crown, through Christ my own

AS WATER TO THE THIRSTY SDAH 460
by Timothy Dudley-Smith

C Am F C
As water to the thirsty, as beauty to the eyes
Dm C E Am
As strength that follows weakness, as truth instead of lies
Dm G Em Am F G
As song-time and spring-time and summertime to be

Chorus
Em Am Dm G F G C
So is my Lord, my living Lord, so is my Lord to me

Like calm in place of clamor, like peace that follows pain

Like meeting after parting, like sunshine after rain
Like moonlight and starlight and sunlight on the sea

As sleep that follows fever, as gold instead of grey

As freedom after bondage, as sunrise to the day
As home to the trav’ler and all he longs to see

AT THE CROSS SDAH 163
by Isaac Watts and Ralph Hudson

D (Bm) G A7
Alas, and did my Savior bleed, and did my Sovereign die?
D (Bm) Em A7 D
Would He devote that sacred head for someone such as I?

Chorus
D A
At the cross, at the cross where I first saw the light
A7 D
And the burden of my heart rolled away
G D
It was there by faith I received my sight
A D
And now I am happy all the day

Was it for crimes that I have done, He suffered on the tree?

Amazing pity! Grace unknown! And love beyond degree!

But drops of grief can ne’er repay, the debt of love I owe
Here, Lord, I give myself away, ’tis all that I can do

Heart of my own heart, whatever befall

Watching and waiting, looking above
Filled with his goodness, lost in His love

G Am G C F C G C
While the hope of endless glory, fills my heart with joy and love

Here I raise my Ebenezer, hither by Thy help I’ve come

And I hope by Thy good pleasure safely to arrive at home
Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God
He to rescue me from danger interposed His precious blood

O, to grace how great a debtor daily I’m constrained to be

Let Thy goodness, like a fetter, bind me closer still to Thee
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love
Here’s my heart—O, take and seal it, seal it for Thy courts above

All the fitness He requireth is to feel your need of Him

FAITH IS THE VICTORY SDAH 608
by John Yates

D A A7 D
Encamped along the hills of light, ye Christian soldiers rise
A A7 D
And press the battle ere the night shall veil the glowing skies
A D E A
Against the foe in vales below let all our strength be hurled
D G D A D
Faith is the victory, we know, that overcomes the world

Chorus
A A7 D
Faith is the victory! Faith is the victory
G D A D
O, glorious victory that overcomes the world

On every hand the foe we find drawn up in dread array

Let tents of ease be left behind and onward to the fray
Salvation’s helmet on each head, with truth all girt about
The earth shall tremble ‘neath our tread, and echo with our shout

To him that overcomes the foe, white raiment shall be giv’n

Before the angels he shall know his name confessed in heav’n
Then onward from the hills of light, our hearts with love aflame
We’ll vanquish all the hosts of night, in Jesus’ conquering name

FILL MY CUP LORD SDAH 493
by Richard Blanchard

G D
Like the woman at the well I was seeking
G
For things that could not satisfy
G7 C
And then I heard my Savior speaking
D D7 G
"Draw from my well that never shall run dry"

Chorus
G D
Fill my cup Lord, I lift it up, Lord
D7 G
Come and quench this thirsting of my soul
G7 C Am
Bread of heaven, feed me till I want no more
D D7 G
Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole

There are millions in this world who are craving

The pleasure earthly things afford;
But none can match the wondrous treasure
That I find in Jesus Christ my Lord

So, my children, if the things this world gave you

Leave hungers that won’t pass away
My blessed Lord will come and save you
If you kneel to Him and humbly pray

Give me the precious words by Jesus spoken
Hold up faith's lamp to show my Savior near

Give me the Bible, all my steps enlighten

Teach me the danger of these realms below
That lamp of safety, o'er the gloom shall brighten
That light alone the path of peace can show

He doth my soul redeem

I long to be like Jesus, meek, loving, lowly, mild

To sing with them His praises and learn the angels’ song
And learn the angels’ song

And that is just the reason I tell it now to thee

I love to tell the story 'tis pleasant to repeat

What seems each time I tell it, more wonderfully sweet
I love to tell the story, for some have never heard
The message of salvation from God's own holy word

And when in scenes of glory I sing the new, new song
‘Twill be the old, old story that I have loved so long

I SAW ONE WEARY SDAH 441
by Annie Smith

E B7
I saw one weary, sad, and torn, (Joseph Bates)
E B7
With eager steps press on the way
E B7
Who long the hallowed cross had borne
E A B7 E
Still looking for the promised day
B7
While many a line of grief and care
E A B7
Upon his brow was furrowed there
E B7
I asked what buoyed his spirits up
E A B7 E
“Oh this!” said he–“the blessed hope.”

And one I saw, with sword and shield (James White)

Who boldly braved the world’s cold frown
And fought, unyielding, on the field
To win an everlasting crown.
Though worn with toil, oppressed by foes
No murmur from his heart arose
I asked what buoyed his spirits up
“Oh this!” said he–“the blessed hope.”

And there was one who left behind (Annie Smith perhaps)
The cherished friends of early years
And honor, pleasure, wealth resigned
To tread the path bedewed with tears
Through trials deep and conflicts sore
Yet still a smile of joy he wore
I asked what buoyed his spirits up
“Oh this!” said he–“the blessed hope.”

60
While pilgrims here we journey on
In this dark vale of sin and gloom
Through tribulation, hate, and scorn
Or through the portals of the tomb
Till our returning King shall come
To take His exile captives home
O! what can buoy the spirits up?
‘Tis this alone–the blessed hope

I WILL FOLLOW THEE SDAH 623

by James Lawson Elginburg

G C G
I will follow Thee, my Savior, wheresoe’er my lot may be
C G D G
Where Thou goest I will follow; yes, my Lord, I’ll follow Thee

Chorus
D G C D
I will follow Thee, my Savior, Thou didst shed Thy blood for me
G C
And though all men should forsake Thee
G D G
By Thy grace I’ll follow Thee

Though the road be rough and thorny, trackless as the foaming sea
Thou hast trod the way before me, and I’ll gladly follow Thee

Though I meet with tribulations, sorely tempted thought I be

I remember Thou wast tempted, and rejoice to follow Thee

Though Thou leadest me through affliction, poor, forsaken though I be

Thou was destitute, afflicted, and I only follow Thee

Though to Jordan’s rolling billows, cold and deep, Thou leadest me

Thou hast crossed the waves before me, and I still will follow Thee

I’d rather have Jesus than world-wide fame
I’d rather be true to His holy name

He’s sweeter than honey from out of the comb
He’s all that my hungering spirit needs
I’d rather have Jesus and let Him lead

I’LL GO WHERE YOU WANT ME TO GO SDAH 573
by Mary Brown

C F C G
It may not be on the mountain’s height, or over the stormy sea
C G C F C G C
It may not be at the battle’s front, my Lord will have need of me
G C G C
But if by a still, small voice He calls, to paths I do not know
G C F
I’ll answer, dear Lord, with my hand in Thine
C G C
I’ll go where You want me to go

Chorus
G C
I’ll go where You want me to go, dear Lord
G C
O’er mountain, or plain or sea
G C F
I’ll say what You want me to say, dear Lord
C G C
I’ll be what You want me to be

Perhaps today there are loving words

Which Jesus would have me speak
There may be now, in the paths of sin
Some wand’rer whom I should seek
O Savior, if Thou wilt be my Guide
Tho’ dark and rugged the way
My voice shall echo the message sweet
I’ll say what You want me to say

There’s surely somewhere a lowly place

In earth’s harvest-fields so wide
Where I may labor thro’ life’s short day
For Jesus, the Crucified
So, trusting my all unto Thy care
I know Thou lovest me
I’ll do Thy will with a heart sincere
I’ll be what You want me to be

We will do the work that our hands may find to do

In a little while we're going home
And the grace of God will our daily strength renew
In a little while we're going home

We will smooth the path for some weary, way-worn feet

In a little while we're going home
And may loving hearts spread around an influence sweet
In a little while we're going home

There's a rest beyond, there's relief from every care

In a little while we're going home
And no tears shall fall in that city bright and fair
In a little while we're going home

IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL SDAH 530
by Horatio G. Spafford

C Am Dm G C
When peace, like a river, attendeth my way
Am D7 G
When sorrows like sea billows roll
C F Dm G
Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say
C F C G C
It is well, it is well with my soul

Chorus
(C) Am G G7 C
It is well (It is well) with my soul (with my soul)
C7 F Dm7 G G7 C
It is well, it is well with my soul

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come

Let this blessed assurance control
That Christ hath regarded my helpless estate
And has shed His own blood for my soul

My sin—O the joy of this glorious thought

My sin, not in part but the whole
Is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul

And, Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight

The clouds be rolled back as a scroll
The trump shall re-sound and the Lord shall descend
“Even so,” it is well with my soul

LET YOUR HEART BE BROKEN SDAH 575
by Bryan Jeffery Leech

Am E Am
Let your heart be broken for a world in need
Am G C Em B7 Am
Feed the mouths that hunger, soothe the wounds that bleed
C Am G Am
Give the cup of water and the loaf of bread
Am E Am
Be the hands of Jesus, serving in His stead

Here on earth applying principles of love

Visible expression—God still rules above
Living illustration of the Living Word
To the minds of all who’ve never seen or heard

Blest to be a blessing, privileged to care

Challenged by the need—apparent everywhere
Where mankind is wanting, fill the vacant place
Be the means through which the Lord reveals His grace

Add to your believing deeds that prove it true

Knowing Christ as Savior, make Him Master, too
Follow in His footsteps, go where He has trod
In the world’s great trouble risk yourself for God

Let your heart be tender and your vision clear

See mankind as God sees, serve Him far and near
Let your heart be broken by a brother’s pain
Share your rich resources, give and give again

LIVE OUT THEY LIFE WITHIN ME SDAH 316
by F.R. Havergal

C G F G C
Live out Thy life within me, O Jesus, King of kings
Am F Dm C G
Be Thou Thyself the answer to all my questionings
C F C Am Dm
Live out Thy life within me, in all things have Thy way!
G C F Dm G C
I, the transparent medium, Thy glory to display

The temple has been yielded and purified of sin

Let Thy Shekinah glory now shine forth from within
And all the earth keep silence, the body henceforth be
Thy silent, gentle servant, moved only as by Thee

Its members every moment held subject to Thy call

Ready to have Thee use them or not be used at all
Held without restless longing, or strain, or stress, or fret
Or chafings at Thy dealings, or thoughts of vain regret

But restful, calm, and pliant, from bend and bias free
Awaiting Thy decision when Thou hast need of me
Live out Thy life within me, O Jesus, King of kings
Be Thou the glorious answer to all my questionings

70
Let those refuse to sing who never knew our God
But children of the heavenly King
But children of the heavenly King
May speak their joys abroad, may speak their joys abroad

The hill of Zion yields a thousand sacred sweets

Before we reach the heavenly fields
Before we reach the heavenly fields
Or walk the golden streets, or walk the golden streets

Then let our songs abound, and every tear be dry

We’re marching through Immanuel’s ground
We’re marching through Immanuel’s ground
To fairer worlds on high, to fairer worlds on high

Though the whole world against me convene
Watching with prayer and much self denial
Triumph at last, with nothing between

O BROTHER, BE FAITHFUL SDAH 602
by Uriah Smith

E A E
O brother, be faithful! Soon Jesus will come
G#m B7
For whom we have waited so long
E A E
O, soon we shall enter our glorious home
C#m B7 E
And join in the conqueror’s song
B7 E
O brother, be faithful! For why should we prove
C#m B7
Unfaithful to Him who hath shown
E A E
Such deep, such unbounded and infinite love
#m B7 E
Who died to redeem us His own

O brother, be faithful! The city of gold

Prepared for the good and the blest
Is waiting its portals of pearl to unfold
And welcome thee into thy rest
Then, brother, prove faithful, not long shall we stay
In weariness here, and forlorn
Time’s dark night of sorrow is wearing away,
We haste to the glorious morn

O brother, be faithful! Eternity’s years

Shall tell for thy faithfulness now
When bright smiles of gladness shall scatter thy tears
A coronet gleam on thy brow
O brother, be faithful! The promise is sure
That waits for the faithful and tried
To reign with the ransomed, immortal and pure
And ever with Jesus abide

O FOR THAT FLAME OF LIVING FIRE SDAH 264
by William H. Bathurst

G D
O for that flame of living fire
G C D G
Which shone so bright in saints of old
D G C D
Which bade their souls to heaven aspire
G C D G
Calm in distress, in danger bold

Where is that Spirit, Lord, which dwelt

In Abram’s breast, and sealed him Thine
Which made Paul’s heart with sorrow melt
And glow with energy divine

That Spirit which from age to age

Proclaimed Thy love, and taught Thy ways
Brightened Isaiah’s vivid page
And breathed in David’s hallowed lays

Is not Thy grace as mighty now

As when Elijah felt its power
When glory beamed from Moses’ brow
Or Job endured the trying hour

Remember, Lord, the ancient days

Renew Thy work, Thy grace restore
And while to Thee our hearts we raise
On us Thy Holy Spirit pour

Our tongues shall chant the glories of our immortal King
And shall hear the trumpet sound in that morning

There God the Son forever reigns, and scatters night away

When I shall reach that happy place, and be forever blest

Be forever blest
When shall I see my Father's face, and in His kingdom rest
In His kingdom rest

Filled with delight my raptured soul would here no longer stay

Here no longer stay
Though Jordan’s waves around me roll, fearless I’d launch away
Fearless I’d launch away

ONCE TO EVERY MAN AND NATION SDAH 606
by James Russell Lowell

Em B7 Em D Em B7 Em
Once to every man and nation comes the moment to decide
Em B7 Em D Em B7 Em
In the strife of truth with falsehood, for the good or evil side
G D Em B7
Some great cause, God’s new Messiah
Em D Em B7
Offering each the bloom or blight
Em B7 Em B7 Em
And the choice goes by forever ’twixt that darkness and that light

Then to side with truth is noble when we share her wretched crust
Ere her cause bring fame and profit and ’tis prosperous to be just
Then it is the brave man chooses, while the coward stands aside
Till the multitude make virtue of the faith they had denied

By the light of burning martyrs, Christ, Thy bleeding feet we track

Toiling up new Calv’ries ever with the cross that turns not back
New occasions teach new duties, time makes ancient good uncouth
They must upward still and onward, who would keep abreast of truth

Though the cause of evil prosper, yet ‘tis truth alone is strong
Though her portion be the scaffold, and upon the throne be wrong
Yet that scaffold sways the future, and, behind the dim unknown
Standeth God within the shadow, keeping watch above His own

D G
With harps in harmony
(Men: with golden harps in harmony)

When on the glorious Mount they stand, sealed with Jehovah’s seal
Without a flaw, God’s purity had always been their seal

The Lamb they follow where’er He goes, a group in one accord

They sing the song of victory through their own blessed Lord

One hundred forty-four thousand saints upon the glassy sea

They overcame by Jesus’ blood, and gained the victory

ONWARD CHRISTIAN SOLDIERS SDAH 612
by Sabine Baring-Gould

D A D
Onward, Christian soldiers! Marching as to war
E A

Christ the royal Master, leads against the foe
Em A
Forward into battle, see, His banners go

Chorus
D A A7 D
Onward, Christian soldiers! Marching as to war
A D G A D

Like a mighty army moves the church of God

Brothers, we are treading where the saints have trod
We are not divided, all one body we
One in hope and doctrine, one in charity

Crowns and thrones have perished, kingdoms rise and wane

But the church of Jesus constant will remain
Gates of hell can never ‘gainst that church prevail
We have Christ’s own promise, that can never fail

Onward, then, ye people! Join the happy throng

Blend with ours your voices in the triumph song
Glory, praise and honor, unto Christ the King
This through countless ages, men and angels sing

More than life to me
Whom have I on earth beside Thee?
Whom in heaven but Thee?

SO SEND I YOU (1954 Version)
by E. Margaret Clarkson
(capo recommended)

D A7
So send I you to labor unrewarded
Em A7 D
To serve unpaid, unloved, unsought, unknown
D7 G Em
To bear rebuke, to suffer scorn and scoffing
D A7 D
So send I you to toil for me alone

So send I you to bind the bruised and broken

O'er wand'ring souls to work, to weep, to wake
To bear the burdens of a world aweary
So send I you to suffer for My sake

So send I you to loneliness and longing

With heart ahung'ring for the loved and known
Forsaking home and kindred, friend and dear one
So send I you to know My love alone

So send I you to leave your life's ambition

To die to dear desire, self-will resign
To labor long, and love where men revile you
So send I you to lose your life in Mine

So send I you to hearts made hard by hatred

To eyes made blind because they will not see
To spend, tho' it be blood, to spend and spare not
So send I you to taste of Calvary

THEY COME FROM THE EAST AND WEST
translated from Swedish by E.R. Colson

C G C
They come from the east and west
Am Dm
They come from the north and south
G G7
Invited to join with Jesus as guests
C
And dwell in their Father’s house
G C
To gaze at His lovely face,
C7 F
And clothed with His purity
C G C
Join with Him in song and joy throughout eternity

Here gathers a countless host

Redeemed by His grace from wrong
No more any sin, no more any tears
No more any night so long
Old things are now passed away
All things are become as new
Joy shall reign eternally for death is ended too

Remember the pearly gate

Stands open for you and me
Our Saviour has gone a place to prepare
For those He from sin set free
Loved ones who have passed away
Are resting within the grave
Awaiting God’s last trumpet call for those He came to save

They come from the thorny path

They come from the stormy sea
They come from the hills, they come from the dales

THIS WORLD IS NOT MY HOME
arr. by Albert Brumley

D D7 G D
This world is not my home, I’m just a passing through
Bm E7 A
My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue
D D7 G D
The angels beckon me from heaven’s open door
Bm A D
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore

Chorus
D D7 G D
O Lord, You know I have no Friend like You
Bm E7 A
If Heaven’s not my home, then Lord what will I do
D D7 G D
The angels beckon me from heaven’s open door
Bm A A7 D
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore

Just up in Glory Land we’ll live eternally

The saints on every hand will shout the victory
Their songs of sweetest praise drift back from heaven’s shore
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore

TRUST AND OBEY SDAH 590
by J.H. Sammis

D A D A D7
When we walk with the Lord, in the light of His word
G D Asus-A
What a glory He sheds on our way
D A D A D
While we do His good will, He abides with us still
G D A-D
And with all who will trust and obey

Chorus
A D Bm Em
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
A D D G A-D
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey

But we never can prove the delights of His love

Until all on the altar we lay
For the favor He shows, and the joy He bestows
Are for them who will trust and obey

Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet

Or we’ll walk by His side in the way
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go
Never fear, only trust and obey

Pardoned sin and purchased favor
Blood-washed robes and crowns of glory
Haste to tell redemption’s story

Kingdoms at their base are crumbling

Hark! His chariot wheels are rumbling
Tell, O tell of grace abounding
While the seventh trump is sounding

Nations wane, though proud and stately

Christ His kingdom hasteneth greatly
Earth her latest pangs is summing
Shout, ye saints, your Lord is coming

Sinners, come, while Christ is pleading

Now for you He’s interceding
Haste, ere grace and time diminished
Shall proclaim the mystery finished

WHEN I SURVEY THE WONDROUS CROSS SDAH 154
by Isaac Watts

D Em A D
When I survey the wondrous cross
D Bm A
On which the Prince of glory died
D Bm G A D
My richest gain I count but loss
A D G A D
And pour contempt on all my pride

Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast

Save in the death of Christ, my God
All the vain things that charm me most
I sacrifice them to His blood

See, from His head, His hands, His feet

Sorrow and love flow mingled down
Did e'er such love and sorrow meet
Or thorns compose so rich a crown

Were the whole realm of nature mine

That were an present far too small
Love so amazing, so Divine
Demands my soul, my life, my all

TEMPLE OF TIME
by Mark Bond

G C D G C D7 G
God took six days and created earth and moon, the stars and sun
C D G C D7 G
On the seventh day He rested from the work that He had done
C D7 G C D G
Then He blessed it, made it holy as a gift for every man
C D7 G
To remind us where we came from
C D7 G
And just how this world began

Chorus
D G C D
Holy day, purified, set apart, sanctified
D7 G C D G
Enter in to joy divine, in this temple made of time

See Him worship on the Sabbath, as His weekly custom was

Feel the fury of the rabbis for He would not heed their laws
So they killed Him on a hillside as the sun began to fade
But He even kept the Sabbath as they laid Him in the grave

Oft forsaken and forgotten, desecrated and profaned

But the sacred fourth commandment is still valid and unchanged
Hear the Father gently calling, “If you love Me heed each one,
Not for merit or salvation, but because you love My Son”

Repeat Chorus

Ending: You will find joy divine in this temple made of time

Always on the Sabbath blessed, we trust You for this holy rest

Rest from worry, rest from fear, rest found when our God is near
Father, take us by the hand, lead us through this foreign land
Till we find eternal rest, in the homeland of the blest

The souls who had lost their way were searching for more
The message of hope that God gave to me
And now I know they are born again and free

Was walking the streets of gold by the River of Life

The splendor of joys untold filled my heart
The souls who were lost and had found the way
With tears they came to me praising God’s name

Here we are, by His grace

Thank you, friend, for the gift you gave

MOUNTAINTOP
by Brown Bannister

D A
I like to sing and I like to pray
D
Worship the Lord most every day
A
I’ve been to the Temple and I just want to stay
D
Away from the hustle of the world and its ways

Chorus
G Gm D Bm
And I’d like to live on a mountaintop
F# G
Fellowshipping with the Lord
G Gm D Bm
I’d love to stand on a mountaintop
E Em A
‘Cause I love to feel my spirit soar
G Gm D Bm
But I’ve got to come down from that mountaintop
F#m F# G
To the people in the valley below
G F# D Bm G A D
Or they’ll never know that they can go to the mountain of the Lord

Now praising the Father is a good thing to do

Worship the Trinity in spirit and truth
But if we worshipped all of the time
There would be no one to lead the blind

Now I am not saying that worship is wrong

Worship is more than just singing a song
It’s all that you say and all the things that you do
It’s letting His Spirit live in you

SMILE, SMILE, SMILE
by Carolyn R. Freeman

C G C Dm Am Dm
There’s something quite peculiar about this world of ours
G C Am D G G7
Sometimes you live in sunshine bright, sometimes you live in showers
C G C Dm Am Dm
But if you would keep happy when things are looking bad
G C D7 G
Just lift the corner of your mouth and make believe you’re glad

Chorus
C Dm G C
And smile, smile, smile, and keep right on a-smiling
Am D G G7
Smile, smile, smile, and clouds will pass away
C Dm G C
Smile, smile, smile, it’s better far than pining
F C Am G7 C
You never mind the shadows on a sunny day

Sometimes you meet with people who always act so blue

They don’t like this, they don’t like that, no matter what you do
They never are quite suited with anything you say
And when you start to do a thing they want a different way

And so like birds and sunbeams, we should be cheery too,

And try in every single thing our very best to do
Then drive away ill temper, forget to frown or pout
For Mr. Grouch-man’s waiting ‘round to catch you, just look out

Last line of third chorus:

And soon you’ll see the sunbeams stealing down your way

One to sin and doubt
The other leads me heavenward
Where I can sing and shout

LESS OF ME
by Glen Campbell

D G D A
Let me be a little kinder, let me be a little blinder
G Em G A
To the faults of those around me, let me praise a little more
D G D A
Let me dream when I am weary, just a little bit more cheery
G Em A D
Think a little more of others, and a little less of me

Let me be a little braver when temptation bids me waver

Let me strive a little harder to be all that I should be
Let me be a little meeker with a brother that is weaker
Let me think more of my neighbor and a little less of me

Let me be when I am weary just a little bit more cheery

Let me serve a little better those that I am striving for
Let me be a little meeker with a brother that is weaker
Think a little more of others and a little less of me

This Cornerstone, this solid Ground
D/F# G A D
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm

My Comforter, my All in All
D/F# G A D
Here in the love of Christ I stand

There in the ground His body lay

Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt in life, no fear in death

This is the power of Christ in me
From life's first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Till He returns or bids me rest
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand!

LOWLY NAZARENE

The power in His hand proved Him more than just a man
F/C C7 F
We all know Him as the lowly Nazarene

Chorus
Bb
He heals the sick, the blind do see

F Bb F/C
I've been touched by this lowly Nazarene and I love Him, yes
C7 F
I've learned to love Him so

The story is so old, but still it thrills my soul

How they brought the sick and laid them at His feet
He healed them one and all
Healed the great and healed the small
The cripple ran rejoicing down the street

Again He comes today to take your guilt away

He longs to make you absolutely free
If you will just believe
His pardon you'll receive
A witness to His power you will be

Chorus after last verse:

He heals the sick, the blind do see, with love He sets the captive free
And at His word it seems the devil has to go
When you've been touched by this lowly Nazarene
You will love Him, yes, you'll learn to love Him so

AMAZING GRACE (NEW)

by Joel Moutray

C F G C
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me
Am F G C
I once was lost but now am found, was blind, but now, I see

Chorus
F G C
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
F G C E7 Am
That saved a wretch like m-e
F G C
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound

‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear, the hour I first believed

Through many dangers, toils and snares, we have already come

‘Twas grace that brought us safe thus far, and grace will lead us home

The Lord has promised good to me, His word my hope secures
He will my shield and portion be, as long as life endures

When we've been here ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun
We've no less days to sing God's praise, then when we've first begun

OH QUE AMIGO NOS ES CRISTO!

D G
Oh qué amigo nos es Cristo!
D A
El sintió nuestra aflicción
D G
y nos manda que llevemos
A D
todo a Dios en oración.
A D
¿Vive el hombre desprovisto
G D D
de consuelo y protección?
D G
Es porque no tiene dicho
A D
todo a Dios en oración.

¿Vives débil y cargado

de temor y de tentación?
A Jesús, tu amigo eterno,
cuenta todo en oración.
¿Te desprecian tus amigos?
Dilo a él en oración:
en sus brazos cariñosos
paz tendrá tu corazón.

Jesucristo es nuestro amigo;

de esto pruebas mil mostró
al sufrir el cruel castigo
que el culpable mereció.
Y su pueblo redimido
hallará seguridad
fiando en este amigo eterno
y esperando en su bondad.

Coro
D G C G
¡Cuan bella es esta historia! Mi tema alla en gloria
C G D G

GUIDING PRINCIPLES IN SELECTING MUSIC
1. Bring glory to God and assist us in acceptably worshiping Him
(1 Corinthians 10:31).

2. Ennoble, uplift, and purify the Christian's thoughts

(Philippians 4:8; Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 594).

3. Effectively influence the Christian in the development of Christ's

character in his life and in that of others (MS 57, 1906).

4. Have a text (words, lyric, message) which is in harmony with the

scriptural teachings of the Church (Review and Herald, June 6, 1912).

5. Reveal a compatibility between the message conveyed by the words

and the music, avoiding a mixture of the sacred and the profane
(Ezekiel 44:23).

6. Shun theatricality and prideful display

(Evangelism, p. 137; Review and Herald, November 30, 1900).

7. Give precedence to the message of the text, which should not be

overpowered by accompanying musical elements
(Gospel Workers, pp. 357-358).

8. Maintain a judicious balance of the emotional, intellectual, and

spiritual elements (Review and Herald, November 14, 1899).

9. Never compromise high principles of dignity and excellence in efforts

to reach people just where they are
(Testimonies for the Church, 9:143; Evangelism, p. 137).

10. Be appropriate for the occasion, the setting, and the audience for
which it is intended (Evangelism, pp. 507-508).

The above guidelines come from the detailed “SDA Philosophy of Music.” Published by the
General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, 1978
