PURPOSIVE COMMUNICATION: LESSON 2

ACTIVITY 1: PRINCIPLES OF COMMUNICATION

Rank the principles of communication from most to least important according to what
you have understood from the lesson then write your explanation why you say so. Use
the chart below.

Authenticity – Sending a message is the first step in communication so conveying

the intended meaning of a message is essential to avoid misunderstanding. The
message should be concise and articulated thoroughly by the sender while
1 considering the exact and appropriate expressions and actions.

Active Listening – Effective communication needed a better understanding

between the participants, however, it cannot be achieved if any of them did
not concentrate in the conversation. As a result, the essence of message
2 may be missed and the feedback could be out of context.

No Assumptions – This is one of the significant principles in communication

because clarity and good comprehension are necessary to obtain intelligible
exchange of information and feelings. Assuming something regarding the
3 conversation can mislead the transmission.

Trustworthiness – Without trust, no one will speak out their opinion and
ideas to others so feedback may not happen especially in a team or social
interactions. Trust, politeness and sincerity between the participants can
4 improve the quality of the good communication.

Value Difference – Considering the distinct beliefs and interpretations of

individuals, the atmosphere of the communication can be more pleasant
wherein the communicators can enhance their connection and relationship.
5
Non-judgemental – Humanity has the nature of judgement but its usage
must be suitable in the situation wherein it is the responsibility of a person
to handle his/her thoughts and emotions effectively. This principle must
6 consider the ethics and morals in communicating.
