X and Y went to a business school together 10 years ago. A corporation that wants to bring in
new Financial Managers has just hired them. X studied Finance, with an emphasis on financial
markets and institutions. Y majored in Accounting and became a Certified Public Accountant 5
years ago. Who is more suited to be the Treasurer and who is more suited to be the Controller?

The treasurer serves as the protector of a company’s value and finances from financial risks that
arises from business activities. They manage the firm’s cash, oversees its pension plans, and
manage key risks. They also gives advice to the management on the proper way to handle
possible economic changes. Since X is the one who studied in the science and art of managing
money, he is suitable to be the Treasurer. Y on the other hand is most qualified for the position
of a controller because he graduated in Accountancy and a controller’s responsibilities involves
accounting activities such as corporate accounting, financial accounting, cost accounting, tax
management, preparation of financial reports etc.
