REACTION PAPER

“The Intern”

"The Intern," a 2015 film directed by Nancy Meyers, examines the lives of elderly
individuals in our day. The film revolves around the mundane existence of a senior man, Ben
Whittaker (Robert De Geniro), who decides to apply as an intern at Jules Ostin's (Anne
Hathaway) company "About the Fit," where he meets new people and achieves his goals. It is a
comedy/drama film that appeals to people of all ages while also teaching us valuable life
lessons.
I was taken aback by how the story began. It's as if we're on a rollercoaster that starts
off funny and then turns into a tearjerker. This film will teach us to always value and appreciate
what we have in life. It also teaches us so many life-long lessons particularly to the interns who
are exploring something new. It telling us that don’t be afraid to try! If Ben would have thought
that an internship at this age, with young people in a Startup, is not something he could do, he
would never have got the chance to experience this entirely different chapter of his life. It makes
me realized that whatever age of the person could be, it will never be an obstacle to reach your
goals and dreams in life.
One scene in particular that continues to teach us life lessons is when Ben tells Jules,
"You're never wrong for doing the right thing.... But I'm sure Mark Twain said that once before."
This may originally be a Mark Twain quote, but it’s still as powerful as ever. There are always
multiple ways to accomplish a task. Thinking differently in these moments will help you stand
out. Take the path that may seem more difficult and you will be rewarded. Synonymous with
what I thought I still got from Ben, which was "Making a significant life shift is scary, but you
know what's scarier?" Regret!!, which suggests that we should live life to the fullest. Now that I
am still a teenager and even when I gets old, I will always grab all the good opportunities that
will come into my life.
I completely agree with Ben's perspective of view in life, particularly when he assisted
Jules in overcoming her flaws and confronting her life's obstacles, particularly when her
husband Matt was cheating on her. Ben Whittaker takes on the role of Jules Ostin's
handkerchief. It was a fascinating film, a story about friendship and life.
The key is to be successful is to keep moving i n any job or career path, there are
moments when you’ll feel stuck or lost. But as Ben reminds us, the key is to keep moving
forward. Yes, that’s been told approximately 1,000 times before, but it’s the truth. Stepping
stones from one position to the next. In these moments of frustration, ask for advice from those
around you. Remember that a company is a team effort not a one-man shop. No one is capable
to accomplish everything by themselves.
This movie is a heartfelt movie, it displays Jules great leadership skills on how she runs
the company and motivates her employees, While Ben is a 70 year old intern which was very
inspiring and good in advising. As a result, I believe this film is a masterpiece, and I am really
impressed with the author. This film is now one of my favorite because it inspires me a lot. The
story is indeed captivating, and it contains important life lessons that could serve as life
guidelines. It taught us that life is a gift that should not be squandered, which is why it’s truly an
impeccable film.
