EFFECTS OF ELECTRIC CURRENT

ON THE HUMAN BODY

THE PASSAGE OF ELECTRIC CURRENT ON THE HUMAN BODY
SUBJECTED TO A POTENTIAL DIFFERENCE CAN GENERATE
DIFFERENT EFFECTS, AND THE MOST SERIOUS ARE:
vMuscle tetanization
Tetanization means an involuntary contraction to the passage of the current by
the muscle affected by the contact, which under normal conditions, move
according to electrical stimulation transmitted by the nervous system.
The passage of high voltage current generates a sort of immobilization of the
limb which does nothing but prolong contact with the injured person,
increasing the risk of other serious consequences, like respiratory arrest.

vRespiratory arrest
The thermal shock that the current produces as it passes through the
human body can cause serious damage to the nervous system by
inhibiting the centers that control breathing and muscles, resulting
in cardiac arrest.
VENTRICULAR FIBRILLATION

vit causes an irregular contraction of the cardiac fibers, altering their regular
cardiac pump function.
Ventricular fibrillation, which is triggered according to variable modes in
relation to the path of the current, prevents the heart from pumping blood
regularly, generating an irregular contraction of the ventricle fibers, with
serious consequences for circulation.
SKIN BURNS

vThe increase in temperature generated on human skin by the passage of an

external electric current can cause severe burns.
The thermal effects induced by electric shocks on the human body, in fact,
cause the destruction of the superficial layers of the epidermis, as well as deep
damage to the limbs, both upper and lower, up to hemorrhages induced by the
rupture of the arteries and damage to the nerve centres.
