Directions: Read the following scenarios. While reading, think about how the situation in which the child grew
up in may or may not have had an effect on his or her life. Discuss your conclusions in the space below each
scenario.

Part 1
Scenario #1
Mark was born the youngest of nine children. As a result of his parents’ divorce, he divided his time between
both houses and never graduated from high school. By age 13, he was addicted to several drugs. His first run-
in with the law was at age 15 after two separate incidents of throwing rocks at children. At age 16, he was
charged with attempted murder, but pleaded guilty to assault and spent two years in a correctional facility.
I feel like the divorce between his parents affected his behavior, i mean it would affect me
he had to spend his time at 2 different households. His parents didn't even think about
how the children would feel, both of his parents would have been there to help him study
for test or SAT prep, and they would have taken him to rehab or NA.

Scenario #2
Jeff lives in a traditional family with a younger brother and his parents. His family is very religious. His parents
are very supportive and loving. They strive to provide a nurturing atmosphere in their home. Occasionally
Jeff’s parents argue. For the most part, Jeff’s family fits the profile of a typical, traditional family.
people would think Jeff and his family are the pitch perfect family but when their actally
there they would relize that they were wrong i just think jeff is misunderstood and his
parents should work out their problems so it would'nt affect their children.

Scenario #3
Although her childhood was fairly normal, Joanne’s teenage years were plagued with her mother’s illness and
an extremely rocky relationship with her father, with whom she is still not on speaking terms. As a teen she
was reserved and quiet, but competent. At age 27 she married, but the marriage soon ended due to domestic
abuse. With a new baby in tow, Joanne moved to a new country. She viewed herself as a failure.
Honestly, Joanne should talk to her dad so he could help support her with his divorce and
the baby, i would want to be part of my granchildren's life so why can't he. Her and her
father can work it out, they could both grieve over her mother's death, and they won't be
alone because they would have each other.

Scenario #4
Michael was one of 12 children born to a single mother. His mother was addicted to alcohol and drugs and his
father was in and out of prison frequently. Michael repeated both first and second grade and attended eleven
different schools in his first nine years as a student. He was placed in foster care at age seven and frequently
found himself in limbo between various foster homes and homelessness.

Michael had a tough life from what i can tell, he could have gotten a tutor to help out with
homework and upcoming test so he would'nt have to repeat the first and second grade, i
don't know if he had any relatives but if he did they could have helped him, his relatives
could have taken his mother to AA or NA or rehab. But he could have worked himself to
get a job with stable pay and buy an apartment, or a hotel room just for the night.

Scenario #5
Tim grew up in a typical working-class home. Although his parents got divorced when he was young, he was
close with his father and grandfather. Growing up, his favorite pastimes were playing football and participating
in church bingo. He earned a partial scholarship to business school, but chose to enlist in the U.S. Army
instead where he earned the Bronze Star for bravery during the Gulf War.
This is a good one, Tim had people too look out for him, he had a sport to play when he
was bored and he play bingo. His father and grandfather were there for him.

Part 2
Examine your personality. Identify three or four factors in your childhood that have influenced your personal
development and have aided in forming your present personality. These factors may be individuals, events,
places, etc.

Using the space below, write about these influences and how you feel about them. Include ideas that you as a
parent or caregiver may do differently and what you would do the same with your own children or children in
your care.

The park by my house: when i was feeling sad or angry i would go to the park too cool
down for a bit, thats where my best memories are, it's where i found my first friend, it's
where i found my first boyfriend, and it's also there where i leraned to ride a bike.

my bike: i used to take my purple bike with pink and blue ribbiond on the side of the
handles everywhere, to the store, home, the park, my aunts house, my friends house,
butttt then the tire popped so it's just lying in my backyard.

Blockparties: I love block parties we would have to buy a ticket in my neighborhood and
we could get anything we wanted i really like the splash dunk where we would hit the red
and white target and someone would fall into the water but i also like the apple pie and ice
cream (homemade).

school: honestly school was my happy place i don't know why it just was.
