Evaluating Development Worksheet

Name: _______________________________________ Date: ______________ Period: ____________

Directions: Read the following scenarios. While reading, think about how the situation in which the child grew
up in may or may not have had an effect on his or her life. Discuss your conclusions in the space below each
scenario.

Part 1
Scenario #1
Mark was born the youngest of nine children. As a result of his parents’ divorce, he divided his time between
both houses and never graduated from high school. By age 13, he was addicted to several drugs. His first run-
in with the law was at age 15 after two separate incidents of throwing rocks at children. At age 16, he was
charged with attempted murder, but pleaded guilty to assault and spent two years in a correctional facility.
Mark's childhood was not the best as you can see, the parents divorce took an impact on
him and i feel like he could have gotten help but his parents didn't even see that he was
hurting.

Scenario #2
Jeff lives in a traditional family with a younger brother and his parents. His family is very religious. His parents
are very supportive and loving. They strive to provide a nurturing atmosphere in their home. Occasionally
Jeff’s parents argue. For the most part, Jeff’s family fits the profile of a typical, traditional family.
So i can see that people judge jeff and his poarents based on how they act when
everythings not so perfect people thought it was they judge them too quickly

Scenario #3
Although her childhood was fairly normal, Joanne’s teenage years were plagued with her mother’s illness and
an extremely rocky relationship with her father, with whom she is still not on speaking terms. As a teen she
was reserved and quiet, but competent. At age 27 she married, but the marriage soon ended due to domestic
abuse. With a new baby in tow, Joanne moved to a new country. She viewed herself as a failure.
I can see hoe this effects Joanne and her father but they should have talked it out and
they were both greiving they could have helped each other, The father of the baby was
wrong but the father of Joanne should be there to help with the baby and the divorce.

Scenario #4
Michael was one of 12 children born to a single mother. His mother was addicted to alcohol and drugs and his
father was in and out of prison frequently. Michael repeated both first and second grade and attended eleven
different schools in his first nine years as a student. He was placed in foster care at age seven and frequently
found himself in limbo between various foster homes and homelessness.

I don't know if Michael had any other relatives but if he did he coukld have reacheed out
too them and he could have told a techer or staff of the school they could have helped him.

Scenario #5
Tim grew up in a typical working-class home. Although his parents got divorced when he was young, he was
close with his father and grandfather. Growing up, his favorite pastimes were playing football and participating
in church bingo. He earned a partial scholarship to business school, but chose to enlist in the U.S. Army
instead where he earned the Bronze Star for bravery during the Gulf War.
I like this one. Tim's father and grandad were there for him even though his father and
mother got divorced, Tim was happy because he stioll had a role model 2 of them actually.

Part 2
Examine your personality. Identify three or four factors in your childhood that have influenced your personal
development and have aided in forming your present personality. These factors may be individuals, events,
places, etc.

Using the space below, write about these influences and how you feel about them. Include ideas that you as a
parent or caregiver may do differently and what you would do the same with your own children or children in
your care.

My mother: He was there for me during my whole childhood 2 weeks ago she told me i
wasn't breathing when i was born but the doctors helped me i searched up on google what
does it mean when that happenes and it actually said depression could happen but that
didn't happen too me

My house: i love my house because 1 i have my own room, 2 i have a walk in closet, 3
everything is organized by color, shape, size, whatever but i also like my kitchen because i
have my own personal snacks.
