A federal judge is a presidential nominee confirmed by the united states senate per the

appointment clause in Article II of the united states constitution under article three of the united

states constitution. Apart from qualifications, there are other factors to be considered by the

president in making a nomination. They include experience; most nominees have many

government or judicial experience either on the federal or state level; most of them either possess

law degrees or other forms of advanced educational level. According to Harry Gibbs, political

ideology is vital in the presidential nomination as presidents surround themselves with judges of

similar political ideology; for example, a conservative president nominates conservative

judges(Gibbs, 1987). Party and personal loyalty are also factors to consider; presidents still

appoint loyal supporters and friends to federal judgeships, although political partisanship is less

common today than a few decades ago. Gender and ethnicity are essential criteria in today,

unlike the past where all judges were white males. All recent presidents have appointed women,

Latinos, African Americans, and members of other minority groups.

Nominating an experienced federal judge should be in play for efficient service delivery

as compared to inexperienced judges. The latter may prove to be error-prone as the judicature a

crucial system. Political ideology, party, and personal loyalty appointments allow individuals to

implement strategies for personal interests without any opposition; such cases give rise to

corruption and vandalizing a public resource. Gender and ethnicity consideration should be in

place to provide opportunities to qualified individuals and increase diversity in the judicial

system. Having experienced judges is beneficial, but it also blocks other young upcoming judges

from occupying those positions; political ideology creates an unhealthy environment that

encourages corruption, whereas gender and ethnicity consideration provides a platform for

everyone to eliminate discrimination.
