SSCL commissions floating solar plant in
Telangana
The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCL), a government-owned coal mining
corporation in India has commissioned its first floating solar power plant at the
Singareni Thermal Power Station (STPS) in Jaipur village of Telangana’s Mancherial
district. SCL is constructing a floating solar power plant with a capacity of 15 MW
(AQ/19.5 MW (DC) at the STPS reservoir. It has commissioned 5 MW of floating solar
power in the first phase. The second phase of 10 MW is scheduled to be completed
in the coming months.
Novus Green Energy Systems built the 5 MW floating PV plant with the help of its in-
house teams and manufacturing facility. The solar panels used in the plant were
made at a facility in india, The floating boards were provided by the indian company
Floatvolt.
Recently in January 2023, Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) estimated 2 GW of
floating solar potential across reservoirs at its Maithon, Panchet, Tilaiya, and Konar
dams in Jharkhand. The company has requested permission from the Ministry of
New and Renewable Energy to build this capacity under the Ultra Mega Renewable
Energy Power Parks scheme.
Additionally, in the same month, a floating solar project of 2,000 kWp was
inaugurated in Chandigarh at the Water Works in Sector 39. The plant has been
commissioned at a cost of Rs 117 million. Additionally, a 500 kWp floating solar
power plant over the Dhanas lake was put into service by the state administrator.
