Reading
Directions: Read the following passage carefully.

In just 5 years between 2010 and 2015, the number of US teenagers loosing
interests in life and feeling useless increased to 23%. Moreover, the number of young
ones aged from 13 to 18 committed suicide soar up to 33%. It is a warning that this
percentage fell into any background: the more privileged and the less privileged, any
races and ethnicities, and from any corners of the nation.

Studies have found that the millennial generation, ones were born after 1995 more
likely suffer depression and attempt suicide than their previous generations. Surprisingly,
the years between 2010 and 2015 were considered a period of steady economic growth. A
new "fabulous" invention was launched: smartphone. In the US, during this period,
smartphone ownership was recognized to across the breaking – point 50% in late 2012.
By 2015, there were nearly 73% of juniors having access to smartphones.

Researchers explored that teenagers using smartphone would be more likely to

reduce time on social communication, in other words, face – to – face dialogues. They
may also spend less time on homework than their fellows who don't use or make smaller
amount of time for smartphone. Specifically, teenagers spending more than 5 hours a day
online will have higher risk of depression and attempting suicide than ones who spend
only one hour a day online.

Why? Spending more time on smartphone leads to less time for social interaction,
while face – to – face interacting can leaves deep impressions, and heart- touching
feelings in one's mind and that person will feel the care from people around. Loosing
social interaction will make human mood suffer reduced happiness, isolation and think of

suicide. Besides that, within the same amount of 24 hours a day, more time for
smartphone conquers one's time for other active life activities: sports, exercises, physical
movements, gardening and so on. That person has less opportunities to reach and
discover things surround and miss the interesting aspects those activities may bring to
him.

Don't let smartphones attack sleep hours. Inadequate sleep is another cause of
depression. Less time for sleep will counter – clockwise modify body's biorhythm and
body – whole circulation, which unbalances the operation of the brain and thus, make
room for depression.
