This is to determine the integrity of the road construction and its sub-grade soil (ie. no Cavities / voids which might cause future sinkholes), and to also ensure that the proposed ‘method of installation is fi for the soil conditions below the road, 924 — Micro Tunneling Micro-Tunneling system consists of remotely controlled tunneling machine (or shield). This system excavates a circular tunnel or borehole into which the Sleeve or Casing pipeline is installed. Sleeve Pipes to be installed are connected to the back of the micro tunneling shield, AAs the shield forms the bore, it is pushed forward by a set of hydraulic jacks positioned in the drive shaft and guided by a railing frame. When a full length of pipe is jacked into the ground, ‘new pipes are positioned into the frame, connected to the pipe string and then pushed forward, This process will continue until the micro tunneling machine arrives into the reception shaft located at the point where the bore will be A tunneling shield carries out excavation, which can be equipped with different types of cutting heads for different types of soils. The heads may be fitted with blades for soft soil, picks for mixed ground and disc cutters for hard rock. The ground conditions will have a large effect on the choice of Micro tunneling system for a particular situation, as they will determine the type of machine to be used, the cutting head, the soil ‘removal system and the jacking forces required Once excavated, the spoil will be removed either by slurry to de-sander or after separation in specially allocated places, In the slurry removal system, water and bentonite mixture are used to convert the cuttings into slurry at the cutting face. This slurry is then discharged to the surface through hydraulic lines located inside the carrier pipes. The spoil is processed in a settlement tank, where the solid particles are separated and removed; the recycled effluent is pumped back to the cutting face ‘The slurry system is also used to balance earth pressure and to prevent influx of groundwater at tunnel face. This Product is not expected to produce any unusual hazards during normal use. Exposure to high dust or mist levels may iritate the skin, eyes, nose, throat or upper respiratory tract. Avoid further exposure. If symptoms persist, get medical attention (Refer the attached MSDS) Micro tunneling machines are steerable in order to install pipeline in the correct alignment and level. Micro tunneling operator must be competent. Authorized operator from the control cabin fon the surface operates these machines remotely and whole processes are monitored by computer systems. Laser beams and cameras are used to monitor position of micro tunneling shield very accurately. DBO CONSORTIUK PAGE 10 0F 92, #wte METHOD STATEMENT: MICROTUNNELLING / SLURRY SYSTEM. UMM AL HAYMAN WASTEWATER PROJECT - SE/171, EG DBO EPC CONTRACT Ret # UT-DBOO.MS-C1.98008 Rev. 04 @ | xeeee Date 16.02.2022 925 Launch and Reception Shaft The shaft trench wall shall be adequately supported at all imes by any suitable techniques i.e. concrete casing shafts, stepping, shoring, sheet piling, or battering techniques et. Based on the result of detailed surveys, Contractor shall use stepping, shoring, sheet piling or any suitable method as per site condition for the access pits either side of the crossing to prevent collapse of the surrounding area and damages to third party infrastructures adjacent to shaft excavations. The control container is set up on the natural ground at a suitable position near the launch pit. Contractor excavates a launch shaft (or pit) at the starting point of a pipeline crossing. This pit ‘must be large enough to accommodate a full length of pipe segment. Typically, a launch pit has the dimensions of sufficient length, width &depth. If necessary, steel sheet pilings are installed and well points are sunk to protect and dehydrate the pit ‘A concrete blinding slab is cast on the bottom of launching pit at the correct level and gradient in order to set up equipment in a clean and safe environment. The frontwall of this shaft is reinforced with a stee! thrust plate of 1.5 x 1.6 m to bear the large thrust forces generated while jacking the pipes. Then, survey points are marked on the concrete base slab for easy reference, ‘The reception shaft is an excavation prepared at the termination point of a crossing and used primary to recover micro tunneling head and carry out tie in works. This shaft is constructed with the dimensions of sufficient length, width &depth to recover tunneling equipment. The cutting head of a micro tunneling machine for rock driling is equipped with hard metal cutting discs 250 mm in diameter. Depending on the size of tunneling machine, these cutting discs are located such that rotation of cutting wheel will excavate entire face of a circular tunnel, Excavated material passes through openings in the cutting wheel into the crushing chamber. The conical crusher reduces the materials in size, mixed with water and betonies to form a slurry medium suitable for conveying to the surface with a sucking pump. Hydraulic motors, located within the cutting head assembly, rotate the cutting wheel. Thus, excavating and crushing power of a micro tunneling system does not depend on distance from the launch shaft as with an auger driven equipment, The cutting head assembly consists of two sections that are articulated to allow movement in any direction to enable precise steering of the thrust (080 CONSORTIUM PAGE 11 0F 92 wte METHOD STATEMENT: MIGROTUNNELLING / SLURRY SYSTEM UMM AL HAYMAN WASTEWATER PROJECT- SE/171 naan Ref # UHT-DBOO-MS-CI-05008 Rov. o4 @ | xecec Dato 15.02.2022 Position jacking frame in the shaft Lift the mounted jacking frame at the red marked suspension brackets and release the jacking frame into the shaft, Place control container behind the shaft For pipe-jacking using a container without hoist unit, the control container has to be placed behind the starting shaft. Ensure that the sealing rings (O ~ Rings and thrust rings) are positioned correctly and their return cones are not damaged, The control and power module is housed within an ISO standard freight container providing rapid relocation from site to site. This unit contains pumps to generate enough hydraulic power to drive micro tunneling head, surface jacks and transfer pumps. Hydraulic fluids are pumped to various components of the system via flexible hoses with quick couplings and operated remotely within the container. The heart of this container is a computer control system. This system monitors all tunneling process in real time by means of electro mechanical sensors fited to various parts of the tunneling ‘machine and generates digital indicators on the video screen. Thus, tunneling operator will control all plant remotely and steer the line pipe in the desired alignment and level. This computer also triggers an alarm system, if critical parameters fall outside of expected ranges and alerts operators Furthermore, these parameters are kept in magnetic storage for quality indicators and as built drawings Guidance System The HERRENKNECHT ELS laser guidance system has been developed specifically for use with ‘Micro tunneling systems. This system includes of a laser source, located in the thrusting pit and pre aligned accurately with the course of pipeline. This laser beam passes through the product Pipe and hits to a target system. This target (an electronic laser camera) is fixed in the cutting head for the impinging laser beam to define the exact position of the tunneling machine. A wheel encoder is located in the launch shaft to provide continuous measurement of the length of thrust Through the main processor of computer system, the actual position of the cutting head is Calculated and displayed graphically on a color monitor built into the control panel. The processor stores a complete record of the installation and a printout is available at any time during the ‘construction from the printer located in the controvpower pack madule. Once the Micro tunneling (each) drive is complete, Protocol with tolerance details will be submitted offically for review and necessary approval ‘Tunneling operation ‘The cutting head is pressed against the tunnel face by the power of hydraulic cylinders located in the launching shaft. Powerful long stroke (700 mm) hydraulic cylinders distribute the jacking force (max, 700 tons) via a push ring on to the jacking pipe to thrust the pipes forward. Pushing ring has an integral ratchet device to allow movement of the pipes only in the pushing direction with the hydraulic cylinders and prevents ejection of pipes by reactional ground forces, Material Conveyances ‘The reduced excavated material is mixed inside the cutting head with the feed water to form slum that is discharged into a separation tank located outside the launch shaft. A fitration unit to remove unwanted solid particles bigger than a certain size processes this. Then, processed bentonite 5 slurry is feed into the tunneling machine via flexible hoses passing through the pipe to be installed. A bypass valve system within the cutting head enables washing out of the lines and partial re Circulation, These valves also isolate the cutting head, whilst the pipeline is broken to insert a new carrier pipe. Thus, face support can be maintained, whist the slurry material discharge system is disconnected, when putting in a new jacking pipe DBO CONSORTIUM PAGE 19 0F 32 @wte METHOD STATEMENT: MICROTUNNELLING / SLURRY SYSTEM UMM AL HAYMAN WASTEWATER PROJECT ~ SE/171 encoun ‘DBO EPC CONTRACT Ref # UHT-D800.MS-CI-05005 Rev. o4 @ | x00 ‘Date 16.02.2022 Post Drive Survey requirements ‘Advance log (Protocol Report) shall be submitted to contractor / Company Contingency Plan to recover the MT Machine stuck underground In case of Micro Tunneling machine is stuck underground in the event of drive failure due to technical reason, machine can be recovered by: 4. The ground water table may also be lowered outside and below the excavation to accomplish the construction which is not exist in our case study. Consequently, these actions will result in a total stress release and movements in the surrounding soil. A shoring system is typically installed to control these movements, Satisfactory performance of the wall requires that the excavation periphery not have any excessive movements or deformations. Moreover, deformations of the surrounding soil may be limited so that adjacent structures and utilties are not adversely affected, The factors that influence deformations include the dimensions of the excavation, soil Properties, ground water control, time (time excavation open, time a section is lunbraced.etc.), support system, excavation and bracing sequence, near-by structures and uities, and transient surcharge loads, The adequate and safe dimensions of the shoring system elements have been investigated Using the technique of numerical analysis. In this regard, the finite element method (FEM) has been applied, via a 20 FE-software (PLAXIS, V8.2) This computer program was developed to calculate the maximum moment of a sheet pile, depth of embedment, and reaction forces based on the soil conditions, depth of the excavation, and location of the struts. It also influences the effective stress ofthe sol. The total force felt by the wall is a combination of the hydrostatic force and the effective soil stress. if following water occurs, a seepage analysis should be made. Factors which must be considered in a seepage analysis includes the permeability of the instu sol, leakage through the wall, flow parallel to the wall, excess pore pressures generated by changes in total stress, seepage forces, and the time the excavation will be open and hence the degree of saturation, The actual pore water pressures generated will typically be less than static pressures. The procedure for constructing a soldier pile wall is to drive the piles into the ground prior to any excavating. The piles are driven with the flanges parallel to the proposed cut. They are usually spaced between four and ten apart. When they have been driven down to the desired depth (typically to 10ft beneath proposed excavation bottom when in soi), the ‘excavation begins in stages. The first stage of excavation is made to the location of the ‘upper most strut or anchor if required, Timber lagging, cut to ft between the webs of adjustment solider piles, if placed in the back of front flanges of the piles. They are set one Piece of lagging on the top of the other with only small spaces between them. Straw or geotextile may be placed between and behind the lagging to reduce seepage thru the wallif no dewatering system installed Photo for Reference 80 CONSORTIUM PAGE 28 OF 22 ®wte METHOD STATEMENT: MICROTUNNELLING / SLURRY SYSTEM oS UMM AL HAYMAN WASTEWATER PROJECT - SE/171, eaises) DBO EPC CONTRACT Rof # UHT-DBOO-MS-CI-05008 Rev. 04 @ | xecec Date 15.02.2022 DBO CONSORTIUM PAGE 29 OF 92 METHOD STATEMENT: MICROTUNNELLING / SLURRY SYSTEM UMM AL HAYMAN WASTEWATER PROJECT ~ SEI171 ‘DBO EPC CONTRACT Ref # UHT-DBOO-MS-CI-05005 Rev. 04 Date 15.02.2022 9.2.17 Installation process of dewatering system Procedure All dewatering operations shall be performed by well-point systems, unless otherwise approved by Contractor. Dewatering system should be maintained at all times so that no groundwater ‘comes into contact with any reinforcement or unprotected concrete surfaces during the construction of valve pits, Corrosion monitoring pits, Anti buoyancy installation or other concrete structural works wherever necessary All water shall be removed in a manner without any damage to company property of and in compliance with contract specification, It shall be done on construction sites where appropriate. Dewatering is done and is offen implemented in conjunction with watercourse crossings. Sediment basin and fiters should be considered to help fiter the dewatered water before it is discharged to a surface. Dewatering systems (Well Point Systems) ‘The well point system shall be placed on both sides of a trench or completely around the isolated excavations, Gravel shall be used around the driven well to avoid fier block during dewatering specially in sabkha area, ROW shall be prepared by using allowable bearing capacity material according to capacity of ‘equipment. Maximum allowable draw-down for a single stage system shall be 4m. Minimum spacing of well-points shall be 1.0m.
