What alternative hypothesis would you use if you think this statistic is too low?
Answer:
Ho: µ = 1 out of every 200 computers. The average numbers of mechanical malfunctioning
computers sell by a company is only 1 out of every 200 computers.
Ha: µ > 1 out of every 200 computers. The average numbers of mechanical malfunctioning
computers sell by a company is more than 1 out of every 200 computers.

2. A healthy study states that Filipino adults consume an average of 3,300 calories per day.
What alternative hypothesis would you use if you think this statistic is incorrect?
Answer:
Ho: µ=3,300 calories/day. On the average, Filipino adults consume 3,300 calories per day.
Ha: µ ≠ 3,300 calories/day. On the average, Filipino adults do not consume 3,300 calories per
day.

3. An investment company claims that its clients make an average of 8% return on


investments every year. What alternative hypothesis would you use if you think this figure is
too high?
Answer:
Ho: µ= 8% per year. On the average, company clients makes 8% return on investment every
year.
Ha: µ < 8% per year. On the average, company clients make less than 8% return on
investment every year.
