CHECKLIST

DISASTER RECOVERY PLAN

Your Disaster Recovery Plan is your contingency plan for the continuation of
business should something unfortunate happen to derail your business. This could be
man-made, natural or technological.

To put it simply this document is what you would reach for first if you had to leave
quickly.

Having this information at hand and not in your head means you won’t forget
anything.

This is by no means an exhaustive list but it will give you a solid grounding in the
type of information you need.

q Identify what would be a risk to your business operation


q Who will help you get things sorted? Think about bookkeeper, accountant,
other external businesses you use now that you will need their help then.

q Create an inventory of all equipment and tools


q Factor in time needed for shopping to replace items
q Include details of your insurance provider and policy
q Include the contact details of all people who can help you recover
q How will you get from A to B?
q Include a detailed risk assessment
q Include family contact details
q Include team member contact details
q Include supplier contact details
q Include client contact details
q Include details of maintenance repairs
q Include maps and directions
q Dates for annual reviews and inventory checks
q Details of data backups

q Instructions for who does what and when
q Include your asset register
q Include operating procedures
q Include a copy of your business plan
q Include a copy of your financial plan
q Include a copy of your marketing strategy plan
q Include a copy of your risk management plan
q Include a copy of your branding strategy
q Review every 6 – 12 months or when anything changes that will impact your
plan.
