BUSINESS CONTINUITY

Disaster Recovery Measures

Business Impact Analysis
It is often said that the first step in a sensible business
continuity process is to consider the potential impacts
of each type of problem.

You cannot properly plan for a disaster if you have little

idea of the likely impacts on your
business/organization of the different scenarios.
What is BIA?
Business impact analysis (BIA) is essentially a means
of systematically assessing the potential impacts
resulting from various (unavailability) events or
incidents
The business impact analysis is intended to help you
understand the degree of potential loss (and various
other unwanted effects) which could occur.
Audit, Analysis & Contingency
Having developed the business continuity plan, it is sensible
to perform an audit... not just initially, but at regular
intervals. This helps ensure that it remains current, and that
it stands up to rigorous examination. This should also cover
all the plan's supporting contingency arrangements.
Various options are available. A common approach is to hire
specialist consultants - recognized experts in the field.
Another is to 'brainstorm' the plan, via intensive meetings
and workshops
A third approach employs pre-written checklists or
questionnaires.
CONTINGENCY AUDIT
IT Infrastructure Contingency
Specific Application Contingency
Network Contingency
Power Supply Contingency
Application Back Up Practices
PC & Small System Contingency
CONTINGENCY AUDIT
It should certainly embrace the major issues and most
likely scenarios, enabling you to review your
contingency and disaster preparedness to a high
quality.
DEPENDENCY ANALYSIS
Dependency analysis is a critical part of business
continuity and disaster recovery planning. Without a
reasonable understanding of what the actual
dependencies of the function or business/organization
actually are, how can you sensibly plan for a situation
in which some are unavailable?
How can you react to a disaster or other serious event,
without understanding what your vital
resources/services are, and what the time criticality for
each of them is?
DISASTER RECOVERY AND
BUSINESS CONTINUITY PLAN
AUDIT
This is intended to help you to review and audit your
disaster recovery or business continuity plan. It covers
the status of the plan itself, and explores in some
depth the content of the plan…. embracing everything
from business function definition to post disaster
recovery.
IMPACT ANALYSIS
Impact analysis is the precursor to all good disaster
recovery and business continuity planning…how can
you sensibly create a plan to cope with disaster if you
have not properly considered the consequences of that
disaster on your different operations and functions?
This document will assist with this process by
considering a number of impact scenarios and
investigating various aspects of your business or
organization.
CHECKLIST, FRAMWORK AND
ACTION LIST FOR DISASTER
RECOVERY
This contains the outline steps required in the
production of a disaster recovery plan.
It details what should normally be included,
how it can be structured and so on.
It can be used as the basis for the production of a new
plan or as a checklist against and existing plan.
CHECKLIST, FRAMWORK AND
ACTION LIST FOR DISASTER
RECOVERY
It embraces practical contingency. The recommended
actions should be carefully considered with respect to
the specific function or organization under review.
It should help you to ensure that both the plan and
contingency arrangements are adequate for your
needs.
It can hopefully stimulate new ideas, and equally
ensure that important issues are not overlooked.
