Spread of Fake news: a social issue or not?

As what I have in mind and what I

knew about fake news, I can highly consider it as a social issue. For how long current
media is continually used, fake news is always present. Before enumerating some
reasons to why it is a social issue, let us first know what fake news is.
Currently with the new media, fake news is one of the most unresolvable issues,
as it is continually spreading throughout for almost every nation. Now what is fake
news? According to its definition, fake news is a term that refers to news outlets that
pretend to be real but are actually fake. It includes false stories about all sorts of topics
that are crafted in order to appear real and was being shared to all social sites like
facebook and twitter. It influences lots of people within a society. And people strive and
put effort on it to handle and solve.
With that inappropriate circumstances, it just proved itself that it is one of the
social issues that are commonly concerned by everyone. Why though?
First, most of social media users are not that security minded. As they capture
what they saw on internet or collect information to some sources, they would just
consider it as true. Moreover, disinformation will rapidly spread through internet and
through society as well. Second, if disinformation reached thousands of minds, then it
has a greater chance to ruin some of the topics’ background. It leads every user to
believe the lies aside from the truths. Thirdly, mental, and emotional health is at risk.
Believing from those bloggers, or creators without knowing more about what they
proposed will mostly end up causing unusual effect or unexpected outcomes or far from
what is expected. In addition to the second one that has been stated, disinformation
influences us to believe from it and end up showing improper attitude. Like those what
we call rumors about something or someone. If we choose to believe from it, whether
or not it’s true, cyberbullying takes place. And that is also one of the social issues.
And by that, spread of fake news are really social problems anyway. They begin
with people as the cause and end with people as the victims.
We already realized that our democracy and cohesion of our nation is at risk
from the structure of the current media. It’s not just about the fake news nor the
cybersecurity. It is also about the users and information seeker, on how they handle
such issues like that. Because, if this issue has not yet been resolved as soon as
possible, then chances of negative impacts will arise. It will surely bring harm to each
and all of us.
As a student from Gingoog City Comprehensive National High School, I believe
that fake news can be avoided and discarded as early as today. If and only if every
social media user as well as every nation are willing to be educated and earn
knowledge about what is proper and improper. As what Albert Einstein said: “We
cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them”.
