AESTHETICS - WHAT GOOD IS IT?

1. WHY DID PLATO PREFER CENSORSHIP OF ART IN A SOCIETY?

- Because Plato was concerned about the danger of art and needed it for the protection of the
audience or society. Some art has an inappropriate message, display, or portrait that might be
harmful or offensive and dangerous to the viewers or visitors, especially for children. When an
inappropriate art is freely posted publicly without any censorship, people may find it in a negative
way or sometime may find it immoral. That is why censorship is so important in art to prevent and
protect society from harmful ideas and influence.

2. WHAT IS ARISTOTLE'S CONCEPT OF CATHARSIS AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT

TO HUMAN PERSONHOOD?

- The idea of catharsis to Aristotle is that our bodies need to release the full range of emotions
to abide in balance through art. The goal of catharsis is to effect a good change in the person's life
in some way, by releasing powerful emotions and strong feelings through art, and this brings the
audience feel good and calmer. Furthermore, the concept of catharsis allows us to experience
strong emotions in that scenario, even if it is not happening to you.
3. WHAT IS THE PARADOX OF FICTION? CAN WE HAVE GENUINE EMOTIONS
OVER FICTIONAL STORIES AND CHARACTERS? OR JUST "QUASI-EMOTIONS"?

- The paradox of fiction is our emotional response to fiction. It is psychological attitude that
is concerned with imagination and reality on how our emotional response to it. We can have
emotion to it, but I think it is not a genuine emotion or true feeling; it is more likely quasi-emotion
the emotion that is generated not by existing belief, but in a fictional belief.

4. SHOULD WE CONNECT ART TO MORALITY OR LEAVE THEM

INDEPENDENTLY FROM EACH OTHER? EXPLAIN YOUR POINT.

- Morality and art are frequently linked in controversial and upsetting art. Due to what is
portrayed, such work provokes the viewer's or the artist's personal opinions, values, and morals.
Because art is based on or influenced by personal feelings people usually give an ethical judgment
to it. I think the artist should have consideration and be mindful in creating art.
