THE GOOD LIFE

What is meant by good life?

 According to Westacott (2018), there are three ways by which we can

understand what is meant by “ a good life” or “ living well”.
These are the: MORAL LIFE, LIFE OF PLEASURE ,AND FULFILLED LIFE.

MORAL LIFE- When we say that someone is living well, we may simply mean that they
are a good person. Someone who is courageous, honest, trustworthy, kind etc.

LIFE OF PLEASURE- Ancient greek philosopher Epicurus was one of the first to
declare that pleasure is what makes life worth living.
 It is also called “ hedonism”.

FULFILLED LIFE- Aristotle , views the good life in a more comprehensive way.
 For Aristotle, the good life is the happy life wherein a person is happy if they
are enjoying positive state of mind.
 He agrees with Socrates that we must live in a moral life and also to
Epicurus that it will involve too many pleasures.
