ABRAM

Genesis Ch.12-13
This is the history of Terach's family. Terach was the
father of Abram, Nakor, and Haran. Haran was the
father of Lot. Haran died in his hometown, Ur of
Babylonia, while his father Terach was still alive. Abram
and Nakor both married. Abram married a woman
whose name was Sarai (meaning quarrelsome), who was
unable to have children. Nakor’s wife was named
Milkah. Milkah was the daughter of Haran.

Terach (a pagan who believed in many deities) took his

family and left Ur of Babylonia. They planned to travel
to Canaan. Terach took his son Abram, his grandson
Lot (Haran’s son), and his daughter-in-law Sarai
(Abram’s wife). They travelled to the city of Haran and
decided to stay there. Terach lived to be 205 years old.
He died in Haran.

IT SEEMS THAT TERACH WAS FIRST CALLED TO

MOVE HIS FAMILY TO CANAAN, NOT ABRAHAM.
WHEN TERACH GOT THAT CALL THEY WERE
LIVING IN THE CITY OF UR OF THE CHALDEES, A
VERY WICKED PLACE AND CULTURAL CENTER FOR
THE WORSHIP OF THE MOON-DEITY (TODAY
KNOWN AS ALLAH). SO TERACH DID LEAVE UR,
BUT INSTEAD OF HEADING SOUTHWEST TO
CANAAN, HE WENT NORTHWEST TO
MESOPOTAMIA AND DECIDED TO STAY !
Chapter 12:
1YAHUAH said to Abram, “Leave your country
and your people. Leave your father’s family
and go to the country that I will show you. 2 I
will build a great nation from you. I will bless
you and make your name famous. People will
use your name to bless other people. 3 I will
bless those who bless you, and I will curse
those who curse you. I will use you to bless all
the people on earth.”

SINCE TERACH APPARENTLY WENT PART WAY AND

THEN DECIDED AGAINST FOLLOWING YAHUAH ANY
FURTHER, YAHUAH USED SOMEBODY WHO WOULD
GO THE WHOLE DISTANCE…. ABRAHAM. PARTIAL
OBEDIENCE ISN’T A LITTLE OBEDIENCE…… IT’S
DISOBEDIENCE. AND SO WE SEE YAHUAH AGAIN
DIVIDING, ELECTING, AND SEPARATING.
Hebrew understanding for “separate”:

680 'atsal aw-tsal' a primitive root; properly, to join; used only as a

denominative from 681; to separate; hence, to select, refuse, contract:--keep,
reserve, straiten, take.

910 badad baw-dawd' from 909; separate; adverb, separately: --alone,

desolate, only, solitary.

914 badal baw-dal' a primitive root; to divide (in variation senses literally or
figuratively, separate, distinguish, differ, select, etc.): -- (make, put)
difference, divide (asunder), (make) separate (self, -ation), sever (out), X
utterly.

995 biyn bene a primitive root; to separate mentally (or distinguish),

discern, eloquent, feel, inform, instruct, have intelligence, know, look well to,
mark, perceive, be prudent, regard, (can) skill(-full), teach, think, (cause, make
to, get, give, have) understand(-ing), view, (deal) wise(-ly, man).
5144 nazar naw-zar' a primitive root; to hold aloof, i.e. (intransitivey)
abstain (from food and drink, from impurity, and even from divine worship
(i.e. apostatize)); specifically, to set apart (to sacred purposes), i.e. devote: -
-consecrate, separate(-ing, self).

6504 parad paw-rad' a primitive root; to break through, i.e. spread or

separate (oneself):--disperse, divide, be out of joint, part, scatter (abroad),
separate (self), sever self, stretch, sunder.
Scripture understanding for “separate”:
Luke 14:26 26“Ifanyone comes to Me but does not hate their family (TO LOVE LESS THAN
… TO HATE THE BEHAVIOUR NOT THE PERSON … TO NOT REMAIN CLINGING AND HOLDING THEM IN SUCH
HIGH REGARD) they cannot be My follower. You must love me more than your father,
mother, wife, children, brothers, and sisters—even more than your own life!

Matthew 10:34-36 34Do

not think that I’ve come to bring peace to the earth. For I
did not come to bring peace, but a sword and division. ‘A son will turn against his
35
father. A daughter will turn against her mother. A daughter-in-Law will turn against
her mother-in-Law. 36Even members of your own family will be your closest enemies.’

Matthew 19:29 29Everyone

who has left houses, brothers, sisters, father, mother,
children, or farms to follow Me will get much more than they left. And they will have
eternal life.

James 5:4 4You people are not loyal to YAHUAH! You should know that loving what
the world has is the same as hating YAHUAH. So anyone who wants to be friends with
this evil world becomes YAHUAH’s enemy.

2 Corinthians 16:15-17 15How

can there be any unity between Messiah and the
devil? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? 16YAHUAH’s
temple cannot have anything to do with idols, and we are the temple of YAHUAH. As
YAHUAH said, “I will live with them and walk with them; I will be their Alahim, and
they will be my people.”
17 “So come away from those people and separate yourselves from them, says the
Master. Don’t touch anything that is not clean, and I will accept you.”
So, just as Abram was separated from his family (who were all
idolaters) and left to carry out what YAHUAH had told him to
do, we must also separate from the world (which is full of
sinners and idolaters), and follow YAHUSHA, believing and
doing everything He wants us to do. And if we keep following
YAHUSHA, maturing and producing fruits, then He will bless us,
just as he blessed Abram.

BUT, if we don’t believe, and want to go the way of the world,

into idolatry and disobedience, then we will be destroyed like
the rest of the world when YAHUSHA returns.

And remember, partial obedience is disobedience. So even if

you do something that YAHUSHA has told you, but then change
His instruction to better suit you, then you are disobeying
YAHUSHA’s command.
4 So Abram (by belief) left Haran
just like YAHUAH had said, and
Lot went with him. Abram was 75
years old when he left
Haran. 5 He took his wife Sarai,
his nephew Lot, all the slaves,
and all the other things he had
gotten in Haran. Then he and his
group moved to the land of Canaan. 6 Abram travelled through the
land as far as the town of Shechem and then to the big tree at Moreh.
The Canaanites were living in the land at that time.
7 YAHUAH appeared to Abram and
said, “I will give this land to your
descendants.”
So Abram, moved with gratefulness and
awe of YAHUAH’S promises, built an
altar out of small stones, calling on the
Name of YAHUAH and sacrificing
animals in His mighty Name. 8 Then he
left that place and travelled to the
mountains east of Bethel and set up his
tent there. Bethel was to the west, and
Ai was to the east.
Abram built another altar at that place
to honour and worship YAHUAH,
9 Then he moved south, stopping for a

time at several places on the way.

10 During this time there was not enough food in the land, and Abram became
afraid and (instead of trusting in YAHUAH’S promise) travelled down to Egypt
(THE WICKED DESCENDENTS OF HAM) where there was more food.
11 Justbefore they arrived in Egypt, Abram said to Sarai, “Look, I know that you
are a very beautiful woman. 12 When the Egyptian men see you, they will say,
‘This woman is his wife.’ Then they will kill me and keep you alive because they
want you. 13 So tell them that you are my sister. Then they will be good to me
because of you. In this way you will save my life.”
14So when Abram went into Egypt, the Egyptian men saw that Sarai
was a very beautiful woman. 15 Even some of Pharaoh’s officials noticed
her and told Pharaoh how beautiful she was. So they took her to
Pharaoh’s house. 16 Pharaoh was kind to Abram because he thought
Abram was Sarai’s brother. He gave Abram sheep, cattle, donkeys,
camels, and men and women servants.
17 Pharaoh took Abram’s wife, so
YAHUAH caused Pharaoh and all the people
in his house to have very bad
diseases. 18 Pharaoh called Abram and said to
him, “You have done a very bad thing to me!
Why didn’t you tell me Sarai was your
wife? 19 You said, ‘She is my sister.’ Why did you
say that? I took her so that she could be my
wife, but now I give your wife back to you. Take
her and go!”
20 Then Pharaoh commanded his men to lead

Abram out of Egypt. So Abram and his wife

left that place and took everything they had
with them.
Chapter 13:
1 So Abram left Egypt. He travelled south with his
wife and everything he owned. Lot was also with
them. 2 At this time Abram was very rich. He had
many animals and much silver and gold. And his
possessions (and people) equalled many of the
Kings in the surrounding cities.

3Abram continued travelling around. He left that

area and went back to Bethel. He went to the
place between the city of Bethel and Ai, where he
and his family had camped before. 4 This was
where Abram had built an altar earlier. So he
worshiped YAHUAH there.
5 During this time Lot was also travelling
with Abram. Lot had many animals and
tents. 6 Abram and Lot had so many
animals that the land could not support
both of them together. 7 (The Canaanites
and the Perizzites were also living in this land
at the same time.) And the shepherds of
Abram and Lot began to argue.
8 So Abram said to Lot, “There should be no
arguing between you and me or between
your people and my people. We are all
brothers. 9 We should separate. You can
choose any place you want. If you go to the
left, I will go to the right. If you go to the
right, I will go to the left.”
10Lot looked and saw the whole Jordan Valley. He saw that there was much water
there. (This was before YAHUAH destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. At that time the Jordan
Valley all the way to Zoar was like the Garden in Eden. This was good land, like the land of
Egypt.) 11 So Lot chose to live in the Jordan Valley. The two men separated, and Lot
began travelling east. 12 And Lot moved all his family and herds and possessions
from Abram’s family (who stayed in Canaan) to the cities and plains near Sodom,
where the people were known for their inhospitable cruelty and depraved, sexual
acts of evil (in every possible way) in YAHUAH’S face.
14 After Lot left, YAHUAH said to
Abram, “Look around you. Look
north, south, east, west. 15 All this
land that you see I will give to you
and your people who live after
you. This will be your land
forever. 15 All this land that you
see I will give to you and your
people who live after you. This will
be your land forever. 17 So go.
Walk through your land. I now
give it to you.”

18 So Abram moved his tents and

went to live near the big trees of
Mamre. This was near the city of
Hebron. There he built another altar
to celebrate YAHUAH’S promise.
NOW, WHERE EXACTLY WAS ABRAM STANDING WHEN HE
WAS TO LOOK AROUND.....IN EVERY COMPASS
DIRECTION.....AND ALL THAT WAS TO BELONG TO
HIS DESCENDANTS? THE GENESIS APOCRYPHON PLACES HIM
ON RAMATH-HAZOR, WHICH IS ABOUT 5 MILES NORTH-
EAST OF BETHEL. IT IS THE HIGHEST SPOT IN CENTRAL
ISRAEL, WITH AN ALTITUDE OF ALMOST 3300 FEET. FROM
THIS SPOT, EVEN TODAY, ONE CAN SEE THE MEDITERRANEAN
SEA TO THE WEST, AND EAST, WELL INTO THE KINGDOM OF
JORDAN.
Modern Day
Ramath-Hazor
NOW ABRAM WAS TO WALK THE LENGTH AND
BREADTH OF THE LAND, BECAUSE YAHUAH GAVE IT TO
HIM. WHAT EXACTLY DOES THAT MEAN? WAS HE
LITERALLY TO STOP WHAT HE WAS DOING, AND VISIT
EVERY AREA OF THE LAND? OR WAS THIS JUST SYMBOLIC
OF SOMETHING, OR A HEBREW EXPRESSION
OR SOMETHING? EARLY WRITINGS STATE THAT WHAT
WAS HAPPENING WAS THAT ABRAHAM WAS DOING
CHAZAKAH (A WIDESPREAD LEGAL CUSTOM OF THAT
ERA) AND WELL BEFORE, AND USED THROUGHOUT THE
VARIOUS TRIBES AND PEOPLES OF THE MIDDLE EAST.
IT WAS KNOWN BY THE EGYPTIANS AS WELL AS THE HITTITES,
AND ATTESTED TO IN THEIR ANCIENT DOCUMENTS. AND, THE
CONCEPT WAS THAT WHEN A PIECE OF PROPERTY WAS
ACQUIRED, THE NEW OWNER HAD TO WALK THE PERIMETER
OF THE ENTIRE PROPERTY, WHICH WAS SYMBOLIC OF
MARKING HIS TERRITORY. NOT UNTIL THE NEW OWNER HAD
DONE THIS WAS THE TRANSFER COMPLETE. SOME CULTURES
EVEN REQUIRED THE KING OR RULER TO WALK THE PERIMETER
OF HIS KINGDOM, FROM TIME-TO-TIME TO RE-ESTABLISH
HIS SOVEREIGNTY OVER THAT TERRITORY.
NOW, WHY WOULD YAHUAH MAKE ABRAHAM DO THIS? FOR
ABRAHAM’S SAKE, AND FOR THE SAKE OF THE MANY WHO
LIKELY ASKED: “WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS LEGAL CUSTOM?” I
HAVE NO DOUBT THAT ABRAHAM DID NOT MAKE FRIENDS AS
A RESULT OF THIS PROCEDURE. FOR, WITHIN THE OUTLINE OF
THE TERRITORY HE MARKED WERE MANY ALREADY
ESTABLISHED KINGDOMS AND CITY-STATES, AND I SUSPECT
THEY WERE NONE TOO PLEASED BY THIS FOREIGNER’S
SYMBOLIC DECLARATION OF HIS OWNERSHIP OF THEIR LAND.
BUT, THERE IS ANOTHER REASON AS WELL: WE’RE GOING TO
SEE ALL THROUGHOUT THE TORAH, THE REMAINDER OF THE
OLD-COVENANT WRITINGS AND THE ENTIRE SCRIPTURE IN
GENERAL, THAT WHERE MAN-MADE GOVERNMENTAL SYSTEMS
EXIST, YAHUAH TENDS TO ALLOW THE PEOPLE INVOLVED TO USE
THE LAWS, ORDINANCES AND CUSTOMS OF THEIR SYSTEM WHEN
TRANSACTIONS BETWEEN YAHUAH AND MEN OCCUR. ABRAHAM
WOULD HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY FAMILIAR AND COMFORTABLE
WITH YAHUAH TELLING HIM TO GO AND WALK THE
LAND, BECAUSE THAT’S HOW THINGS WERE DONE, THEN. IN
FACT, IT PROBABLY WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY ALARMING, AND
LEFT MUCH DOUBT IN ABRAHAM, IF YAHUAH HAD NOT ORDERED
IT.
IT WOULD BE AS THOUGH WE WENT IN TO BUY A CAR, WE FILLED
OUT ALL THE PAPERWORK, LAID A CHECK ON THE TABLE, AND
THE DEALER SAID, “NO NEED FOR YOU OR I TO SIGN
ANYTHING....JUST TAKE THE CAR AND GO AND WE’LL JUST
TAKE EACH OTHERS WORD FOR IT.” WE WOULD BE PRETTY
UNCOMFORTABLE DOING THAT......FOR ONE REASON, IT
ISN’T CUSTOMARY. SAME THING HERE WITH ABRAHAM; BY LEGAL
CUSTOM OF THAT DAY, WALKING THE PERIMETER OF THE LAND
LEGALLY COMPLETED THE TRANSFER OF THE PROPERTY AND
THEREBY LEFT BOTH PARTIES FULLY FEELING CLOSURE ON
THE TRANSACTION.
THE CHAPTER ENDS WITH ABRAHAM MOVING
TO HEBRON, AND BUILDING AN ALTAR THERE.
BUILDING AN ALTAR WAS CUSTOMARY TO
DECLARE ONE DEITY OR ANOTHER’S
AUTHORITY OVER THAT TERRITORY . . . .
BUT FOR ABRAM, IT
WAS TO BE 'THE
SPEAKING PLACE' ...
FOR YAHUAH WOULD
OFTEN SPEAK TO HIS
PEOPLE AT THE PLACE
WHERE BLOOD WAS
SHED AND SPRINKLED
IN SACRIFICE AND
ADORATION.

WHERE IS THE BLOOD

SPRINKLED `SPEAKING
PLACE’ TODAY?
