2. Define the following and its focus:
a. Public Health
- Public health works to track disease outbreaks, prevent injuries and shed light on why some of us
are more likely to suffer from poor health than others. The many facets of public health include
speaking out for laws that promote smoke-free indoor air and seatbelts, spreading the word about
ways to stay healthy and giving science-based solutions to problems.
b. Community Health
- Community health is a medical specialty that focuses on the physical and mental well-being of the
people in a specific geographic region. This important subsection of public health includes
initiatives to help community members maintain and improve their health, prevent the spread of
infectious diseases and prepare for natural disasters.
c. Public Health Nursing
- Public health nurses play a critical role in improving population health outcomes by educating
communities and delivering care within them. In this leadership position, registered nurses are able
to make positive changes through policy reform and community-building.
d. Community Health Nursing
- Community health nursing, also called public health nursing or community nursing, combines
primary healthcare and nursing practice in a community setting. Community health (CH) nurses
provide health services, preventive care, intervention and health education to communities or
populations.
