HOMEWORK 1 - Force applied to a bell crank

A 460-N force P is applied at Point A of the bell crank as shown in the figure below.
Compute the moment of the force P about O by resolving it into horizontal and vertical
components. (Round the final answer to two decimal places.)
HOMEWORK 2
It is known that a vertical force of 800 N is required to remove the nail at C from the board. As
the nail first starts moving, determine

a) the moment about B of the force exerted on the nail,

b) the magnitude of the force P which creates the same moment about B if  = 10o,
c) the smallest force P which creates the same moment about B.
HOMEWORK 3 - Force applied to a winch
A winch puller AB is used to straighten a fence post. The tension in cable BC is 1200.00 N and
length d is 1.90 m.
Determine the moment about D of the force exerted by the cable at C by resolving that force into
horizontal and vertical components applied at Point C. (Round the final answer to two decimal
places.)
HOMEWORK 4 - Force applied to a pneumatic system

A foot valve for a pneumatic system is hinged at B. Knowing that  = 28o, determine the
moment of the 4-lb force about point B by resolving the force into horizontal and vertical
components.
HOMEWORK 5 - Equivalent force applied to a cast-iron arm
Three horizontal forces are applied to a vertical cast iron arm as shown in the figure.
HOMEWORK 6: Moment of force about an axis of a crank
A single force P  acts at C in a direction perpendicular to the handle BC of the crank shown.
Determine the moment Mx of P about the x-axis when θ = 65°, knowing that My = -33.000 N·m
and Mz = -60.000 N·m. (Round the final answer to two decimal places.)
HOMEWORK 7: Reduction of a system of forces
The force and couple shown are to be replaced by an equivalent single force. Given that P = 2Q.
Determine the required value of α, in degrees, if the line of action of the single equivalent force
is to pass through Point A. (Round the final answer to one decimal place.)

A couple M of magnitude 10 ft lb is applied to the handle of a screwdriver to tighten a screw
into a block of wood. Determine the magnitudes of the two smallest horizontal forces that are
equivalent to M if they are applied
a) at corners A and D,
b) at corners B and C,
c) anywhere on the block
HOMEWORK 10
The masses of two children sitting at ends A and B of a seesaw are 38 hg and 29 kg,
respectively. Where should a third child sit so that the resultant of the weights of the three
children will pass through C if she has a mass of
a) 27 kg,
b) 24kg.
