Who Was Imam

Malik?
Imam Malik was born on year 93 Hijri in Medina. He grew
on a surrounding immersed with knowledge, and he
started learning since he was a teenager. Because of his
intelligence, in the age of 21, he was given permission to
issue Fatwa after 70 scholars confirmed his eligibility. He
had mastered the the science of hadith in the age of 17
and wrote a book recording the Hadith later.

What Was Imam Malik Known


For?
It was Imam Malik who compiled the first authentic Hadith collection, AlMuwatta,
which contained 1,720 Hadiths. He wrote this book based on the traditions of the
people of Madinah, which he believed to be the most reliable source of Hadith,
apart from the Prophet (PBUH) himself. He spent several years researching,
collecting and verifying the Hadiths before compiling them into the book. The book
was approved by 70 scholars and thus called Muwatta (The approved). Many
commentaries have been written on the book. Imam Shafie, who was one of Malik's
students for nine years, said: "Imam Malik is like a star among scholars." Imam Malik
