BARCODE READER

• Barcode reader is an electronic device that can that decodes the information in the printed
barcode and sends the information to the computer.

1. Scanning head shines LED or laser light onto barcode.

2. Light reflects back off barcode into a light-detecting electronic component called a
photoelectric cell. White areas of the barcode reflect most light; black areas reflect least.
3. As the scanner moves past the barcode, the cell generates a pattern of on-off pulses that
correspond to the black and white stripes.
4. An electronic circuit attached to the scanner converts these on-off pulses into binary
digits.
5. The binary digits are sent to a computer attached to the scanner, which detects the code
as 11101011.

DIGITALIZER
• Digitalizer is an input device.
• Also called graphics tablet.
• this device is used for quick and accurate graphics conversion
Principle of operations
• controlled with a finger or digital pen
• Digitaliser is a flat surface over which an input device is used to move the screen cursor.
• The special pen used for drawing is known as stylus
• The image is displayed on the computer monitor.
• When a user draw a line with stylus, the action generate accurate data to the computer by
an electric signal.

DIGITAL CAMERA
• A digital camera is a photographic camera that produces digital image
• Digital Camera uses light sensitive electronics to capture images on a PC's HDD
• the images are immediately available for use
• Digital camera eliminates the use of scanners to digitalize the image to input to computer
systems.
• Different types of digital cameras are
1. Point and shoot camera- Less expensive lower image quality. Highly portable and
easy to use.
2. Field camera- High portability, versatility and image quality and Expensive.
3. Studio or view camera -super image quality, bigger frame size to capture more data
and expensive.
Principle operations
• In digital camera light Passes through the lens of camera and is focused on a chip called
change coupled device (CCD) instead of photographic film.
• The CCD creates an electric current in proportion to the intensity of light falling on the
CCD.
• Digital signal processor Digital signal processor adjust the contrast and details in the
image.
• The image is temporarily stored on the HDD and then transfer to the PC through a serial
cable.
