Definition induction bending
process
Induction bending is a process to bend steel pipes that enables
precision control of the conditions during the bending process
(heating and cooling of narrow sections of the steel pipe) ensuring
more stable quality and precision geometry.
Accordingly, it has many advantages over cold bending or the use of
forged elbows:
• Free-shape processing;
• Highly accurate processing;
• Small-radius bending in heavy-wall steel pipes;
• Bending of pipes with special mechanical properties (e.g. high
strength and toughness).

Induction bending advantages
Main features of induction bending process:

• It is possible to bend any kind of material: Carbon steel, alloys steel

and stainless steel (API 5L, A106, A333, A335, Austenitic, duplex and
martensitic stainless steel, clad pipes and others);
• Manufacturing method of pipes: Seamless pipe, spirally and
longitudinal welded pipes welded by submerged arc and electric
resistance process;
• Bends with shortly radius can be manufactured (1,5D, 2D, 3D and
higher);
• International standards: ISO 15590-1 / ASME B16.49 / DNV OS-F101
/ PFI ES-24 / PTA IBS-98;
• Shapes for civil construction: T-bar, L-angle, HSS, Wide Flange. I-
beam and channel;
• Elbow-less system: consecutive bends

Induction bending advantages
Main benefits:
Reduction of costs for building
Ø Advantages in the reduction the weld quantity
v Fewer qualified welders;
v Fewer welding inspection costs;
v Fewer post-welding treatment costs (when it is required)
Ø Reduction of the costs with painting and coating repairs;
Ø Reduction of the costs from purchasing of forged bends, because the induction
bends are manufactured from straight pipes;

Reduction of the overall schedule

Ø Reduction of the quantity of required inspections (NDT, dimensional, etc.);
Ø The induction bends are delivered in just-in-time way because they can be
manufactured on site.

Maintenance costs reduced for the pipe lines

Ø Easily to check due the fewer quantity of weld spots;
Ø Fewer quantity of fragility points on the pipe lines.
