In recent years, the interest of the chemical industry in obtaining enantiomerically pure products has
been increasing, due to the large number of biologically active compounds that have chiral centers
in their structure and that their activity is directly bound to one of the enantiomers in particular[1].
For this reason, the search for methods to obtain enantiomerically pure compounds has attracted
interest from the scientific community.
This investigation are focused on the synthesis of compounds derived from cyclopropane which is
of great importance in various sectors of the industry, given its versatility and its wide range of
biological activities, such as its antibiotic, antiviral and insecticidal activity.[2 ,3]
For the synthesis of this type of compounds, the most widely used method is the cyclopropanation
of olefins with diazo compounds catalyzed by transition metal complexes with chiral ligands. This
route is especially attractive given the possibility of obtaining chiral cyclopropanes with specific
orientation.[4]
On this work are presented the characterization and catalytic evaluation in the styrene
cyclopropanation reaction of a new copper(II) complex with Schiff base ligand (Figure 1).
