ECEG — 3153: Electrical Workshop Practice -2 May 15, 2015, Assignment 3 1. Construct the power and control circuit using contactor, timer, a three phase reactor, push button and over load relay for starting @ three phase star connected motor. Use a reactor in series with the stator to reduce the starting current then after 30 seconds the reactor is disconnected from the power circuit by contactors and the motor will continue to run. Show although the reactor Circuit in your power circuit. (Notice: a three phase reactor is a simple set of three inductors. 4, a La By connecting the reactor in series with a three phase motor we ‘can reduce the voltage that is going to reach the motor. This happens because of voltage division between the motor and the reactor impedances. Model the reactor as a set of three inductor coils with 6 terminals as shown here.) st, Ot, Ot 2. Design a four way rode traffic light for a cross road in front of Shewa bakery, Amist kilo . The design should include 4 traffic light sets, where each light set hold the green, yellow and red lights. For specific light set the green light should stay on for 1.5 min, the yellow should stay on for 0.5 min and the red should stay on until all other light sets finish their green-yellow cycle.(hint: use contactor and timer) Directions Question number 1 is mandatory part of assignment 3 and it is to be done in groups of four students or less. Every student should participate equally in the design and should be able to defend any questions raised on the presentation of the Assignment. The report should be one page of drawing that includes both power circuit and control circuit (Like that of your contactor switch workshop practice manuals). The report should be well drawn and any writings should be legible; preferably computer aided drawing, Name of students and their respective numbers should be written at the bottom of the page. All members of a group should be students of the same sub group. (Eg. 2A1 students can only team up with 2A1 students.) ‘Question number 2 is a bonus question (not mandatory) and it can only be submitted individually. The report should be one page of drawing that includes both power circuit and control circuit (Like that of your contactor switch work practice manuals), The report should be well drawn and any writings should be legible; preferably computer aided drawing. In both cases, make sure to include measures to avoid accidents like short circuit. (Hint: We have seen such kinds of measures in contactor switch designs of workshop practice.)
