Serving as Tbilisi's main Georgian Orthodox cathedral until the

completion of Tsminda Sameba in 2004, Sioni Church features a
history stretching back more than 1,400 years, providing insight
into the spiritual history of the nation. Originally founded in the
late 400s, the church has been razed and rebuilt many times; the
structure that stands now likely originates from 1112, when the
church was completely rebuilt during the reign of King David IV.
Step inside to walk the aisles and examine the frescoes that
adorn the walls. The church also houses an important relic, the
cross of Saint Nino--or the Grapevine Cross--a symbol of the Georgian Orthodox Church
dating from the 4th century. You can see a replica of the cross on display; the real cross is locked away.

Ushba is one of the most notable peaks of the Caucasus

Mountains. It is located in the Svaneti region of Georgia, just south
of the border with the Kabardino-Balkaria region of Russia.
Although it does not rank in the 10 highest peaks of the range,
Ushba is known as the "Matterhorn of the Caucasus" for its
picturesque, spire-shaped double summit. Due to its steep profile
and unstable weather, Ushba is considered by many climbers as
the most difficult ascent in the Caucasus.Ushba's south summit is
slightly higher than its north summit, which has an elevation of
4690m. The north summit was first climbed in 1888 by John Garford Cokklin and Ulrich Almer, while the
south summit saw its first ascent in 1903 by a German-Swiss-Austrian expedition led by B. Rickmer-
Rickmers.Ushba's north summit is more accessible than the south summit: the standard route, the
Northeast Ridge, ascends from the Russian side of the range to a high plateau and thence to the
summit. The route is graded French AD+ or Russian 4a. Routes on the south summit, from the Georgian
side, include two routes graded French ED.In August 2012, thunderstorms made the ascent of Ushba
treacherous. One climber died and another, Andranik Miribyan, was stuck near the summit for four
days after becoming trapped on a ledge by heavy snowfall. Due to high winds, rescuers were unable to
reach him by helicopter and Andranik made the decision to descend the mountain, despite having no
ice axe after his broke while clearing snow.

 Amidst hills and lush vegetation sits , a hidden, sparkling blue
lagoon. This little-known gem maintains a temperature of about 7
C (45 F) throughout the year and has a depth of about 75 m (245
ft), despite being smaller than 0.02 hectares (0.04 acres). Around
the lake, you'll see decorative palm trees; watch for local
peacocks preening their plumage. Legend says that the lagoon
gets its color from the blue eyes of an old hermit whose body lies
at the bottom.

View the large flowing out of a crack in a cliff. The 70 m (230 ft) tall
falls sit 530 m (1,740 ft) above sea level in an area with a cool
climate. Approach it by car, hiking, or cycling. Once there, you can
either walk up to the site and snap photos of the moss-covered
cliff, or head for the observation deck in the forest nearby for a
different view.
