CHRISTMAS: MUSIC AND TRADITIONS

Good Morning and welcome to Farallones!!! Today we have a musical presentation with the collaboration of all our students, teachers and employees
from the school, we hope you can enjoy and feel the Christmas Spirit.

LOS TRES PASTELITOS (PREESCOLAR)

Carols were first sung in Europe thousands of years ago, but these were not Christmas Carols. They were songs,
sung during Winter celebrations as people danced round stone circles.Las canciones de Navidad tuvieron su inicio
en Europa hace varios miles de años atrás, eran canciones en honor al Solsticio de Invierno.

HA NACIDO EL NIÑO (BAILE PREESCOLAR)

The Winter Solstice is the shortest day of the year, usually taking place around 22nd December. The word Carol
actually means dance or a song of praise and joy! EL solsticio de invierno es el día más corto del año, usualmente
ocurre el 22 de diciembre. La palabra villancico significa baile o canto para alabar y disfrutar.

HOY ES NAVIDAD (GRADO 1°)

Carols used to be written and sung during all four seasons, but only the tradition of singing them at Christmas has
really survived.

Los villancicos fueron escritos para cantarse a lo largo del año, pero con el tiempo, se volvió tradición que se
cantaran sólo en navidad.

DIN DON DAN- GRADO 2°

Christmas, remembering the birth of Jesus started to be celebrated at the same time as the solstice, so the early
Christians started singing Christian songs.

La Navidad, como el nacimiento de Jesús, se celebraba al mismo tiempo que el solsticio, de tal forma que los
cristianos empezaron a cantar canciones en esa época

ANTON TIRULIRULIRU - GRADO 3°

In 1223, Saint Francis of Assissi started his Nativity Plays in Italy. Sometimes, the songs were in Latin; but
normally they were all in a language that the people watching the play could understand and join in! The new
carols spread to France, Spain, Germany and other European countries.

En el año 1223, San Francisco de Asis, inició la tradición de las obras de navidad en Italia, en estas presentaciones
se cantaban canciones normalmente en latín pero con el tiempo se empezaron a cantar en otros idiomas en Europa.

MI BURRITO SABANERO – GRADO 4

The earliest carol, was written in 1410. The carol was about Mary and Jesus meeting different people in
Bethlehem. They were usually sung in homes rather than in churches. La primera canción de navidad se escribió en
1410, hablaba de María y Jesús en Belén, en esta época se cantaban estas canciones en las casas. ¿Sabías que
Hacia Belén va una burra es uno de los villancicos navideños más populares en Iberoamérica?
 HACIA BELEN VA UNA BURRA - GRADO 5°

Rudolph, the red nose reindeer was written by Johnny Marks and was recorded in 1949. La canción Rodolfo, el reno
de la nariz roja (Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer) fue escrita por el compositor estadounidense Johnny Marks, el
cuñado de Robert L. May. Fue grabada por primera vez en 1949 por el cantante estadounidense Gene Autry.
RODOLFO EL RENO - GRADO 6°

Merry Christmas is a song written by José Feliciano, and it turned into a hit even though the song is really simple.
Nowadays it is a traditional and classic song.
Feliz Navidad es una canción de Navidad escrita por José Feliciano que a pesar de su simple estructura, se ha
convertido en una popular canción navideña en los países que celebran aquel acontecimiento.
Feliz Navidad se convirtió en un clásico que unió varias culturas

FELIZ NAVIDAD - GRADO 7°

"Jingle Bell Rock" is an American Christmas song released by Bobby Helms in 1957. Since its release, it has
received frequent airplay in the United States during every Christmas season since then. Jingle Bell rock fue
compuesta en 1957 y cada Navidad suena en las emisoras alrededor de todo el mundo debido a que es una canción
navideña que varios artistas han cantado en diferentes versiones.
JINGLE BELL ROCK - GRADO 8°

Colombians light small candles and paper lanterns, placing them on windowsills and balconies and decorating parks
and roads. Some cities close several streets so its citizens can admire the capital's Christmas lights and undertake
family activities throughout the evening. En Navidad las calles de las ciudades se llenan de luces y velas que se
colocan en la noche del 7 de diciembre, algunas ciudades alumbran los parques y las avenidas, en lo que se
denomina el “alumbrado de navidad”

NAVIDAD LLEGÓ GRADO 1° (BAILE)

In Colombia, Christmas celebrations and preparations start on the evening of the 7th December which is known as
Dia de las Velitas, there are big fireworks and music to dance and food like buñuelos and natillas. El día de las
velitas se celebra el 7 de diciembre, en esa noche hay exhibiciones de juegos pirotécnicos y se come buñuelos y
natilla.

FELIZ NAVIDAD – GRADO 2° ( BAILE )

From December 16th until Christmas Eve, many Colombians take part in “novenas”. These are special times when
family, friend and neighbors come together to pray in the days leding up to Christmas.
A partir del 16 de diciembre hasta la noche de navidad, los católicos rezan la novena también conocida como la
novena de navidad, se cantan villancicos y se disfruta de la comida tradicional de navidad

SUENA LA NAVIDAD – GRADO 3°(BAILE)

One of the funniest traditions are the aguinaldos, which are games that adults and children play, like Tres Pies. Each
player tries to put one foot in the middle of the feet of the other players without being noticed. Another funny game
is Si y No, in which you are not able to say one of those two words. Una de las tradiciones más divertidas en
Navidad son los aguinaldos: juegos entre adultos y niños como el Si y el No, que sólo se hacen durante el tiempo de
navidad.
 BAILE – VE Y DILO – GRADO 4°

On December 28 in Colombia, we celebrate the Innocent Days, a festivity centered around funny jokes. People pull
pranks like giving others fake food, inventing stories and so on. On television, they show some of these pranks, and
even newspapers join in the fun by publishing funny stories. El 28 de diciembre, se celebra el día de los inocentes,
fiesta que se desarrolla con bromas y juegos a los demás, en los noticieros, programas y periódicos se muestra
diferentes situaciones divertidas como parte del día de los inocentes.

UNA NUEVA NAVIDAD - GRADO 5°( BAILE)

To celebrate the New Year, Colombians have a long-standing tradition of eating 12 grapes as the clock strikes
midnight. It is custom to eat one grape per chime and make a wish as you eat each grape. Tradition says that each
wish will come true in the New Year. En la celebración del 31 de diciembre, existe la tradición de comer las 12
uvas, una por cada deseo para el año que inicia.

MAS ALLÁ GRADO 9 – 10 CANCION

One of the most popular dishes is buñuelos, originally from Jewish and Arabian culture. It came to Latin America
during the Spanish colonization. They are often served with natilla, a sweet dessert made out of milk, butter, panela,
cinnamon, and lots of love. Una de las comidas más populares son los buñuelos, de origen árabe y que se incluyó en
la comida latína al igual que la natilla.
