CHME 330: Chem. Eng. Fluid Mechanics-HW1

Question # 1
Carbon dioxide gas (CO2) is stored in a container of dimensions 6 m × 6 m ×8 m at 25 oC
and 210 kPa.

Determine the followings:

a) Number of moles of CO2 gas (kmol)

b) Mass of CO2 gas (Kg)
c) Density of CO2 in the container (Kg/m3)
d) Specific gravity
Question # 2
A mud consists of 50 % sand, 20 % cement and 30 % water. The density of sand is 2.24
g/cm3, density of cement is 1.44 g/cm3 and water of 1.0 g/cm3. Calculate the followings:

a) Density of the mud in g/cm3

b) Density of mud in Ibm/ft3
c) Specific gravity of mud.
Question # 3
A mass of 20 Ibm is acted by a force of 4.5 Ibf on a body. What is the acceleration in (i) ft/h2
and (ii) m/s2?

IN. In strict SI, the only unit of pressure is the Rnscal (Pn}. The most widely used derived
unit is the bar (bar = l Pa = 0.1 MPa). What is the relation between the bar and the
pressure of the ammsphere at see level‘? Why is the bar a popular choice for a working
